Excellent for controlling unwieldy setter!,
By An avid reader (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: British Style Slip Lead - 3/8" x 6' - Black (Misc.)
I purchased this lead after borrowing my sister's to walk my previously unwalkable dog. This length (4') and diameter (1/2") lead walks our Gordon Setter without too much excess length. I wanted a leash long enough to allow for control on walks (bathroom stops usually happen after his walk). I opted for the black color and wider diameter lead to differentiate between this and the additional British Slip Lead - 6 x 3/8 - Salt Pepper I purchased for use with my Bichon-Cocker mix. The manufacturing is top notch; the leather slide is sleek and stylish. But above all this slip lead gets an A+ for functionality! Easily placed high on the neck, it cinches quickly for gentle correction. A must-have for any dog owner!

Excellent For Quick Walks and little Pulling,
By Jason (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: British Style Slip Lead - 3/8" x 6' - Black (Misc.)
This leash is great, I work in a kennel, and this has become my best friend. Very comfortable to hold and to walk with. The material doesn't bother your hands at all. The little tab you see at the end of the loop is not stationary, it allows you to set how large the loop can get and keep it from falling off the dog. This is excellent when you walk a jack russell and then a newfoundland. It is great to be able to loop a dog real quick as it bolts out of a kennel, rather than having to control the dog in order to clip on a regular leash. The only drawback to this leash is if you have a dog that pulls a lot, especially if its a large dog with a lot of power, not that its tough for the walker but it can hurt the dog. Dogs that pull hard need to be addressed, first you should never let a dog walk you or drag you around if its a all the time thing. The other problem is a dog that pulls on a regular leash can be over time hurting their trachea. This can lead to collapsed trachea, and other throat/breathing problems. This goes for any leash/collar combo, however more so with the slip leash because as the dog pulls harder it gets tighter around their neck. For a dog that pulls a mar-tangle design is more efficient. Or even better than that look into a halter, which is a loop that goes around the snout and then clips behind the dogs ears. Using a halter as the dog pulls their head is turned rather than pressure on the neck, the dog will most of the time tend not to pull because they don't like their head being turned. Another great way to prevent pulling, a stop pull harness my favorite is made by the company premier. The buckle for the leash sits right in the middle of the chest, dogs do not like pressure on the chest so as the pull the pressure makes them want to slow down. Over all this is a great leash for quick things and gaining control of a dog fast, however if you are planning to walk regularly with this make sure your dog is not a puller.

The best lead ever,

This is definitely the best slip lead I have ever used, and I have been in dogs for over 40 years. It is so light weight the dog doesn't even know it is on, but I have the control I need. I bought one for each of my 2 dogs (Chow and English Cocker Spaniel) and have given one as a gift to friends for their new Goldendoodle. A quality product and the price was good enough to be able to buy a few of them.

I bought this lead on the recommendation of someone who has the same breed puppy as I do (Havanese). I cannot tell you how much I LOVE this lead. It is small enough that it is quite convenient but strong enough to do the job. I like the fact that I can easily slip it onto my puppy and then slip it right off again so as to prevent any potential matting. I tend to keep it stashed in his carrying case so if he needs a potty break it is right there.

Slip Lead,

This review is from: Mendota Slip Dog Lead 4ft x 3/8in Black (Misc.)
The slip lead works great. Bought it for my 9 week old bird dog puppy, he couldn't twist around and pull his head out. The lead has no sharp edges and loosens as soon as pressure is released. By positioning loop of the lead high on his neck dog show style and lifting up he quickly followed along, no dragging or choking. Definitely recommended.

Great price. Great size! The 3/8" is perfect so the dog is not choking so bad when they pull. It won't cut into the skin. We use this lead for our hunting dog and it works great out in the fields. Love it!

I often allow my Springer Spaniel off leash romps. I always carry this excellent slip lead in my pocket should his 5 Month old exuberance exceed reasonableness. The lead allows for a very wide loop, making it easy to "lassoe" him gently during his higher spirited moments. I'ts thickly braided enough to stand up to any size dog yet thin and light enough for a puppy. (Perhaps not a chihuahua) The leather slip-lock keeps the loop size where you want it with no slippage.

The stitching is coming out around the handle of this lead and I only use it to take my dog from the car to the dog park, kind of disappointed.

I like this item because the lead is short enough so I don't need to take up a whole lot of slack in order to keep my dog, who would otherwise pull, next to my side. The fabric is also soft on the hands. The lead is nice cuz I can slip it over her head and go, it stays high up on the dog's neck giving me total control.

This leash is good to stay high on the neck (as recommended by Cesar Milan, Dog Whisperer), but it did hurt my hand when my dog pulled.
