There is one thing I should get straight before I start. I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of Britney Spears. I probably never will be. But I do like rhythm/dancing games, so I gave this one a try just for fun.

The gameplay for the most part is basic. You try to press the correct buttons with the correct timing. Mostly you are using the x, circle, square and triangle buttons, but occasionally a directional button will be thrown in, which adds to the challenge immensely. You are auditioning to be one of Britney's backup dancers by dancing off against other dancers. You go through ten auditions before being allowed to audition against Britney herself. After each audition, you are awarded points based on your performance. These points eventually reward you with "backstage passes" that allow you to see video clips of Britney.

The one innovative gameplay element that I like about this game is that when your competitor does well, he or she can make your moves harder. Every time your opponent strings a combo of ten button presses together, it adds or changes your sequence. It may change one of your buttons, it may add a directional button, it may cause one of your button presses to be moved up or back, or it may add one or two extra button presses so that you have to hit ten buttons in rapid succession. Of course, by stringing together a combo of ten yourself, you do the same thing to your opponent. Although this can be infuriating at times, it at least adds some challange to an otherwise simple game.

I do have a few complaints about the game. First, it is too short and easy. You could play through the game with one dancer in a few hours easily, and through the entire game with all six dancers in a weekend. Therefore, I would just recommend this as a rental. Also, there are only five songs, and if you were not sick of hearing "Oops...I did it again" before, you will be after playing this game. My second complaint is that there should be a replay option. One problem with rhythm games is that while you are playing, you really cannot afford to look at what is going on because you have to be paying close attention to the meter. There should be a way to replay what you just did so you can watch all the moves that your dancer just did.

If you like rhythm games, try this as a rental. You just might find the gameplay very addictive. If you like rhythm games and you are also a fan of Britney's, you might just find this worth you money. But for serious gamers, Dance Beat really does not offer much depth.

For those who like Dance Revolution this game has some interest. It's fully compatible with dance pads and the game actually seems better suited for dance pads than for the hand controller. Since I'm a Dance Revolution fan I'm glad to have this game to add some new songs into the mix. However, there are only 5 songs on this game. So if you really don't mind there are only 5 songs and are just happy to have a few new tunes to dance to then it's ok. The movement of the arrows is different than DDRMax. It's too difficult to describe, you need to see it in action, but it takes a few minutes to get used to. I know some people though who don't like having to readjust to the different interface so take that into consideration. Graphics are good, no complaints. Difficulty: somewhere in the range of "Light" to "Standard" using DDRMax definitions. Certainly not "Heavy". This is minor addition for the Dance Revolution library of songs but since I only have DDRMax and Jungle Book for PS2/Dance Pads, I'm happy to have a few more songs I can throw in. I only shelled out ten bones for this brand new which is about what it's worth.

I am big fan of dance mat games and I like Britney Spears music too, but I was quite disappinted with this title. I clearly recommend that you buy a Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) game instead.

The game's biggest fault is that there is only 5 songs in it. I think that is way to little given how many song you can get on a regular music CD at a much lower price. So this is not good value for money.

Also the actual steps that you have to do is not very dance-like. The moves are quite monotone and machine like - this is unlike the DDR games where the steps are quite well thought out.

The game has a new quite novel idea which is that you battle against an opponent and if you do a long combo you throw "hard moves" at your opponent. The idea seems quite good in theory, but in practice this means that steps are changed fractions of seconds before you need to hit them. Besides making the game very frustrating at the higher levels this even further reduces the game from actual dancing.

And the fact that the on-screen characters don't even move in sync with the song at its moves the experience just seems very disconnected.

Finally, I am not to happy about all the things you can unlock in the game. They are generally videos of very poor quality and doesn't actually tell you anything interesting or new about Britney. This could have been *so* much better.

This video game is fun when you first play it, but it gets very boring. The levels dont seem to ever change, and the song selection is very limited. I suggest if you want to buy this game, rent it first!

pros- it is fun and a challenge wen u first start it, graphics are very good in quality with good sound
cons- needs a lot more selection of songs, levels, players and gets boring after palying 2 or 3 times.

Let me put it this way Britneys Dance Beat has nothing to dance about...it has great beats..but only 5 songs. It's not very thrilling..so i wouldnt recommend this game..Want a game you can really have fun with get Dance Dance Revolution. Now thats a Excellent game!

When I play a video game, I want to indulge my fantasies. The premise of this game is that you can become a back-up dancer. That's right - the best you can do is become a back up dancer. This game is perfect for people who dissappoint themselves, even in their fantasies. You shouold be able to become the head dancer and replace Britney Spears. Now THAT would be entertainment.

Britney Spears's new video may not be great but, it is still much fun. You choose a dancer you would like to be and you compete from round to round to become the newest Britney backup dancer. The game's grahics are very well done and even though this game maybe easy, it offers enough fun for all ages. The game's only flaw is the music. They could have offered more music to choose from. The songs included are, "Stronger," "Overprotected," "I'm a Slave 4 U," "Oops I Did It Again," and "Baby One More Time." Overall, this game is very good and can keep you entertained for hours.

I am a 24 year old female, and I thoroughly enjoy this game. I bought it, as well as the dance beat pad, last night. It is very entertaining and good exercise. I just wish it had more of a selection of songs.

The game is okay but could have been a little bit more. All you do on the playstation version is press the four buttons. You cant make her dancers dance you press the button when it tells you to. It takes way to long tobeat. I am a big britney fan and i wished the game was funner. The graphics are pretty good but you have to beat four dances twice. Once yo ubeat th efour you get theh same dances but harder. You have to start pressing 2 buttons at once which is very confusing. You get points for completing dances.With so many points you get backstage passes.The passes let you watch her practice a song for a concert. After beating eight dances you finally get to go be a dancer. I still am not there. To try beating it you need a memory card to save or you have to start over again. It might be fun to some who would have fun pressing the four buttons.It made me pretty mad. You should probably rent before you buy. I wouldnt pay more than 20.00 . I love britney but didnt care for the game.

My daughter just bought this game with her own money (she's 9) and the first complaint is I think this game is over priced. However, if you are a Britney fan then you'll probably enjoy this. The next complaint is that there is only 5 songs to choose from. There should've been at least 10 songs and there should be elevating levels with more difficulty. The most difficult part is when the symbols (X, O, square & triangle) start to change, move and some even have the left, right, up, down arrows to coincide with them. I found that adding the arrows with the symbols blew me away as I wasn't expecting it when I played against my daughter (it's not that difficult to throw me for a loop!).

With that said, it is still a fun game, with music (limited) and if your child is a Britney fan, your child will probably love it. But again, it is way over priced in my opinion and I would shop around for some good prices.
