Product Description

A smooth paste formulation which produces a white grained finish to relatively open grained timber. The liming wax can be applied directly onto bare wood, or will work on sealed or stained timber. Some woods will benefit from opening the grain with a wire brush before application. The Liming Wax should be overcoated with BRIWAX for a more durable finish.

Have been looking for a non-stain based "pickling" product and this really does the job. You can control the 'whiteness" of the product somewhat by your application strength and number of coats. It gives that beachy - aged look and then you seal the whole thing in by a Briwax clear waxing and it looks professional. I took an old pine table from worthless to workable in a couple of sanding sessions followed by the use of this product with a few wax coats. I was impressed.

I purchased this product to refinish chairs that were new and had a perfect finish. Briwax says the wax can be used on finished wood. This is true. However, I didn't get the effect I was after using the wax over the finish. So I sanded down the parts with 180 grit sand paper I wanted to really emphasize with the liming wax. I then applied the wax--timidly at first, and then more aggressively--to fill in the details and the nooks and crannies, along with the wood grain itself. I let this dry for a while. The suggestion is 10 minutes but I waited a little longer (15-20 min) in order to leave more wax residue in the corners of the carvings, etc.
I then polished the surfaces briskly and have a beautiful set of (very expensive looking) chairs that I paid $49 each for!
I couldn't be more pleased!
*one other suggestion: the Briwax polishing brush is worth purchasing if you have more than a little bit of surface to wax and polish.

I used this wax for my semi- antique oak furniture. It gives an old wood the look of the original finish. It does leave a white wash which is fine if that is the look you want.

I like the bleached look it gives certain woods. Some people say to apply sparingly but found that a few coats are required to get an even look... especially on a big surface like a dresser. It works best on open grained wood, but I've experimented on different types. Using the clear Briwax gives it a great polished finish.
