"I hope younger women reading these words see that there is a full, rich adventure yet to come."
This one line that Sam Dawson wrote in Broad Appeal inspired me. Being 44 years old and seeing myself staring at the second half of life, I was looking for some wisdom and humor -boy, did I find it in this little book!

It will make you laugh out loud and let you inside Sam --and all the writers-- knowledge base. They open up about sensitive subjects - marriage, divorce, money, sex, God, work, physical changes, etc. with candor and grace. What I love about this book is that no matter what age you are, you will enjoy the read.

I'm giving a copy this Christmas to all my women friends and family!

I've read that elderly people are more mentally healthy than the average young person. Sam's book helps you see why. Sam's friends have been through some tough stuff and yet each has a message of uplift about growing older and learning to live life your way.
Broad Appeal gives you access to connect with a community of wonderful, wise women who live life on their own terms. No matter where I open the book I am inspired.
No matter what topic catches your attention at the moment, money sex or sagging skin, you will admire them and laugh with them.
Each woman is quotable in her own way. I have too many favorites to quote them all. "My days belong to me." "The decision to weep or laugh, to enjoy life or whine about it is mine." "Time it seems mellows men and toughens women." "I stand up for what is best for me." "Live life to the fullest. I woke up married and that night I was a widow." "Outside I am aging but inside I am flying." "Since I have actively sought out happy people, my life has improved dramatically." See, too many good quotes to choose, each with a story behind them.
Sam didn't set out to interview happy, resilient women but that is what she found. These women don't deny the hard knocks but find what is great about their ages and stages, and most of all themselves. Look forward with them. I bought copies for all my sisters and friends at Christmas.I am looking giving copies to my young nieces next.

I enjoyed parts of this book and thought there were some especially funny comments. However, I also agree with some of the reviewers that it went a bit too far in places with TMI. Other than that it's kind of cute and kind of funny... I never did finish the whole thing though as I got kind of tired of the ongoing sameness.

This is why we have grandmothers, for the kind of bone-deep wisdom gained from living a life, being a mother, a wife, a professional, of being lost and found, of being women alone in difficulty, and women together in solidarity. It's all here, waiting for you to sit at the knees of these fabulous, fascinating women and learn good stuff.

I can put all the young girls to shame. Young??60 to 90. I am 85 years on this earth. I had a big wedding on my 82nd year to a young whipper snapper of 88. He is now 90 and will soon be 91 and I will be 85 in March. We had 100 guests, an orchestra for dancing, which we did and a buffet and good time was had by all. Of course my daughters thought I was nuts but at this age who gives a damn. We are still in love, although we only see each other once a week when his son takes us out to lunch or whatever. He is in a care facility and I am still in my home. I would not have missed those few years for anyone. It made my life cop full and brimming over. Thank you for writing a book that showed me that it is all right to be in love again at 85. Bonnie Garrison Laguna Woods, CA

There were parts that were interesting and gave me a feeling that I am not alone with my frustrations of forgetting things. I did not like the sharing of sex experiences. Quite inappropriate to disclose those private moments.

This was a wonderful collection of women's life experiences that can help anyone as they go through the aging process. Even though I have a few years before I turn 60, this book was filled with golden nuggets of wisdom to help me prepare for 60+.
