This review is from: Broadsides & boarders
Broadsides and Boarders is a must read for any person interested in the age of fighting sail.
Albert takes you from the early days of the fight for Dutch independence through the days of the British Sea dogs and the Anglo-Dutch wars all the way to 1815 telling the tales of the Great captains and the men who served under them. Van Heemskerk, Drake, de Ruyter, Hawke, Suffern, John Paul Jones, Decatur and of course Nelson are brought to live and their deeds recounted along with many others who sailed the seas in battle and made a decisive difference in the history of Navel warfare. The individual chapters focus on specific men or events and make the book particularly readable, those chapters are grouped into parts covering specific periods so you can if desired focus on the particular bit of history that you wish to read about. But it doesn't matter as you will be reading this book again and again and thrill at the tales therein. Not to be missed by any lover of history. |
