This is an all-star line up of some of the biggest names in jazz today. Motian brings the group together with fantastic textures and arrangements of these beautiful old tunes. Bill Frisell also plays a large and magnificent role in shaping these tunes with his unique sound. Lovano and Konitz weave around and away from each other wonderfully, as Haden lends his own unique playing. The unity of the group is fantastic, we can only hope that the "On Broadway" series will be re-issued, as well as many of Motian's earlier CD's. Why is Paul Motian not recognized in larger circles for his brilliant artistry?

Paul Motian brings together an amazing cast and leads them through some great old tunes. Hearing Bill Frisell (guitar) with Lee Konitz (alto) and Joe Lovano (usually tenor) is an interesting and astounding combination of unique stylists. A personal highlight for me is "How Deep is the Ocean"? An excellent album, I highly recommend it for any fans of Frisell, it is a very interesting context to hear him in.

these paul motian on broadway albums have become increasingley hard to find, and i'm getting angry. the music heard on this disc is some of the best that i've heard in the last three minutes, and it needs to be made available to everyone. lee konitz enjoys his sound on this disc while frisell is not recorded as well as one might expect, and motian does all his great hitting one shit, and charlie haden sounds deep, and lovano needs to shave so i can see his embouchure. ok, yah, so let's find out who made this cd an "import" and eat them in place of cornflakes.
