I found Bernadette's book to be absolutely delightful, from the adorable illustrations by Liz Murphy to the sweet words by Bernadette to the lovely "Kramer's Song". It's an absolutely wonderful bonus that the included CD not only features Bernadette's narration of the book, but also her warm, beautiful voice on "Kramer's Song", a song she penned herself. As soon as I heard that the book would be published, I knew it was a must-have, not only because I am a fan of Bernadette's and a supporter of Broadway Barks, but also because I knew my niece would love it. I love that it educated my niece, a dog owner herself, about homeless dogs and the need to help animals who don't have homes of their own. Brava, Bernadette!

The story is spectacular. My grand daughter loved it. The fact that it comes with a CD with the story read beautifully and playfully by the author (BERNADETTE PETERS!)is a bonus and the song she sings at the end is truly touching.
There are very very few really wonderful books that come with a CD where the story is read to the child. I am disappointed most of the time. This one is one of the best I have ever read/listened to. Finally a book/CD where the story is great and it is read in a way that will have children asking to hear it over and over again.

It is a "must have" for dog lovers and children of all ages.

Bernadette Peters' book is to put it simply - wonderful. I was looking to pick up a book for my son, Jake and came across "Broadway Barks." We read so much together and have a very rich collection of stories and picture books. You'd never guess Ms. Peters was a first time author, as her knack for storytelling seems so natural. She has created warm, lovable characters and Liz Murphy's illustrations are a feast for the eyes. We especially love listening to the recording that comes in the back of the book. Here's hoping this talented actress/activist/author writes more tunes (and books) in the future. "Kramer's Song" has found it's way to our family CD player and it doesn't look like it's leaving anytime soon. Jake now wants to visit Shubert Alley in NY! (where part of the book is set and apparently as well as Bernadette's yearly adopt-a-thon for NY shelter animals). Highly recommended.

I have always been a huge fan of Ms. Peters. This book is great for broadway and dog lovers! I especially loved Kramer's Song-It makes me and my niece cry. Awesome!

I'm an older lady who still enjoys some childrens books for the enchanting charm in them, and I love dogs, but I got this book primarily for the song I heard her sing on the morning news show. I was a bit disappointed there wasnt more to the story of the dog, it was very short and simple, but very nice lesson. As I said, the song was well worth it though. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! but the lyrics should have been posted or provided somewhere. Thankfully Bernadette sings so beautifully and pronounced so clearly I was able to type them out and provide to a couple people online looking for them, as I had been. If I may provide them here.. if not they can be deleted. but here goes..

This book is far superior to other Children's Books written by celebrities (usually because THEY have young children) .... which is definitely valid. The fact that Peters and Murphy have fashioned a magical story and an original style of illustrating that blend a love and passion for animals and takes place amidst a Broadway backdrop is really unique. In addition to Bernadette Peters' stardom, this book breathes of a native New Yorker, who devotes her free time to animals, no-kill animal shelters and pet adoption .... a long time passion that Oprah Winfrey recently devoted an entire show to and spread the message to the world. The message - adoption, uniqueness of every animal, just like human beings ... and, best of all ... a lullaby penned by the actress/singer/author herself! What a treat! The price is more than value for your dollar and this makes a perfect gift for everyone - adults and children alike. Oh yeah ... did I tell you that I love it? :):):)

A beautifully written fun story with great and interesting illustrations. A good moral about pet adoption. The best feature is the CD featuring Bernadette Peters reading the story then singing that gentle lullaby that she wrote; very moving and sweet. Another great feature is that the proceeds will benefit animal shelters. Children, adults and shelters all win with this book!

My sister is the cousin of MS. Peters so perhaps I have a bias.

I was truly surprised by her appearance on the View. She sang this song
and it touched my heart. We love all creatures great and small and teach children
to be responsible owners. This book helps children to understand that adopting
is a special gift we give to our pets and ourselves.

The song is a wonderful lullaby and I am learning the tune to sing to the
little ones we love. I would gift this to any child who wants or has a pet.

Beautifully illustrated,thouhtfully written,and lovingly sung, this is a menaningful and philanthropic gift for any sensitive child and caring adult whether or not they are dog lovers~

As a Bernadette Peters fan and supporter of Broadway Barks, I was excited to get her first book. It exceeded my expectations - after all Ms Peters is a fabulous singer, not previously known as an author.

It is a wonderful sweet story about a stray dog - who used to have a home but now lives in the park - and how he was rescued by Broadway Barks. The CD that accompanies it not only has a beautiful song written and sung by Ms Peters but she reads the story delightfully. The story also introduces children to the animal rescue process.

I gave the true test to the book - my 2 year old granddaughter, a dog lover - and she had me read it over and over to her. She also loved listening to the CD which has lots of relevant background city noises making the story even more fun followed by Ms Peters singing the song, needless to say, magnificently. I am a fan of children's stories with CD's and I found there is a shortage of really good ones and that so very few have music on them, so I am particularly thrilled to find this one.
