And the ones that were recorded with revival casts are very good.

She has fallen in love with Broadway musicals so giving her 25 at once (she only had 1 of the set already) was a great Christmas gift after our trip.

An incredible assembly of some of the great Broadway classics. As a teenager who enjoys Broadway musicals, I don't have access to a lot of the original cast albums for the older shows except through Itunes, and with Itunes I don't get the CD to put in my collection. I would recommend this to anyone who loves theatre, it is a chance to relive the classics, and to understand them in a new way.
The box is very nice, and includes a book that gives a brief summary of each show and a list of all the songs, which I love. But, the CDs are only held in these (albeit durable and very nice-looking) thin cases, and it's unfortunate the lyrics aren't included.
Overall an incredibly worthwhile purchase, and 100$ is a very reasonable price for such an extensive collection.

I have always enjoyed the music I have heard that has been taken from Broadway, but never taken the time to listen to a complete Cd of the musicals from which the music was taken. I was browsing musical eslections at Amazon when I came across this box set.

My first thought was that 25 Cd's for just over $100 was too cheap and that the recordings must in some way be inferior. I took a chance and how wrong my first assumption was.

Using the booklet as my guide I have now listened to the first 9 selections and willl be listening to Guys And Gals next. At the moment I am considering this the best musical buy I have ever made. The sound quality is great and I absolutely love what I am hearing. If there were a volume !! to this set I would be ordering it today.

I would alsdo like to see an essential Off Broadway musical collection put together.

I purchased this as a gift for my 78 year old father. He said it was the best gift I ever gave him. He was really happy to get the large assortment of 25 musicals that would provide hours of listening pleasure. He also thought it was really cool that several of the musicals were done by the original cast. I thought it was a great price for the quantity of music.

Europe gave us opera; the United States gave us musicals. They are quintessentially American: brash, joyful, and kaleidoscopic. In their 20th-century heyday, the likes of Cole Porter, Frank Loesser, Stephen Sondheim, and the duos of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, and Kander & Ebb created classic Broadway productions that entranced us with sheer magic. Their music and lyrics became America's soundtrack. While those days are gone, the magic and music remain, so young folks who may have only heard echoes of them on the TV show "Glee" need a cultural primer.

This anthology of 25 CDs includes nearly all of the essentials, and it's bargain to boot! It's not for aficionados like me who already have these shows in our libraries, but it's the motherload of Tony-Award-winning Broadway musicals for any new fan, and one hopes it will whet the appetite for some actual theater-going or at least some viewing of the film versions. Most are original cast recordings, many of them Grammy winners, but a handful are revivals ("Anything Goes," "Carousel," "Guys and Dolls," "The King & I," "Man of La Mancha," "Oklahoma!" and "Show Boat"). The box includes a booklet with period photos, brief summaries, and track listings for each disc.

Just look at some of the hits and stars you will hear in glorious stereo:

1. "Tomorrow" and "It's a Hard-Knock Life" ("Annie" with Andrea McArdle and Dorothy Loudon)
2. "You're the Top," "Easy to Love," and "I Get a Kick Out of You" ("Anything Goes" with Patti LuPone)
3. "Willkommen," "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," and "The Money Song" ("Cabaret" with Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey)
4. "If Ever I Would Leave You" ("Camelot" with Julie Andrews, Robert Goulet, and Richard Burton)
5.

I gave this collection as a gift for a friend who worked on Broadway many years ago. She was absolutely delighted when she opened the package and has had many hours of enjoyment -- not only are the original cast/Lincoln Center recordings great, but the memories have been wonderful for her. What a great collection at a truly reasonable price!

My teenage daughter is an avid Broadway fan so I bought this for her for Christmas and she tortures us daily with the CD's. I am very pleased that she loves the collection so much, it has introduced her to even more Broadway shows that are no longer in production. I highly recommend these to anyone that loves Broadway, makes a fantastic gift.

This set includes music from 25 different Broadway musicals, ranging from Jerome Kern and Cole Porter to Stephen Sondheim. Seven shows are revivals, while the rest are original cast albums. The collection is weighted towards shows from the 1950's and 1960's, though there are contributions from both earlier and later than this period. A few well-known musicals are missing (for instance, "The Music Man") but most famous shows are included. The performances are a bit of a mixed bag, with the emphasis in the original cast recordings sometimes on character rather than beauty of sound. There are some classic accounts included, with Mary Martin in "Sound of Music" and "South Pacific", Julie Andrews in "My Fair Lady", Ethel Merman in "Gypsy", Joel Grey and Lotte Lenya in "Cabaret", Zero Mostel and Julia Migenes in "Fiddler on the Roof", Carol Channing in "Hello Dolly", and Robert Morse in "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying". Many of the albums are from the LP era, so they are sometimes rather short and sometimes augmented by extra material. Special mention to the albums from "Company", "Man Of La Mancha", and "Sweeney Todd" which manage to convey much of the story-line along with the musical highlights. Casts and brief notes are included, but there are no lyrics.
