Eder Goes Beyond Wildhorn and Shines,
By
This review is from: Broadway, My Way (Audio CD)
Linda Eder's new CD is a fabulous trip through the Great White Way. Favorite tracks: Edelweiss and subtle and beautifully sung, I Am What I Am is full of power and emotion, Some People is technically perfect, and The Impossible Dream may be the best version ever recorded. It's just magnificent. Also don't miss two beautiful songs that have become standards in Linda's concerts: What Kind of Fool and Don't Rain on My Parade. The CD is what lots of fans have been waiting for: a move beyond the writings of her husband Frank Wildhorn. And the result is the quintessential Broadway CD. Perfect.

Linda never fails to put her best voice into her efforts, but how much better can it get? Well, Broadway, My Way amply demonstrates that we've seen nothing yet! Each time you think she can't possible get any better, she does! Without a doubt, the synergy of this miraculous collection, heavenly executed and imaginatively arranged so as to delight your ears, deeply touch the core of your heart and imbed itself into your very soul. I can't wait to hear this collection live, since as marvelous as Linda is in the studio, she absolutely soars when live!

Broadway's Best - Linda Eder-style,
By
This review is from: Broadway, My Way (Audio CD)
Linda Eder - Broadway; She is what she Is! - Pure "Gold", the "Impossible Dream" comes true... Incredible as ever, fantastic, you HAVE to listen to, experience and feel the passion - there aren't words enough to do justice to what Linda Eder has done with this music and her incredibly gifted voice! She soars! There's no more comparing to Babs or Judy or anyone else - Linda Eder is in with the best of the best in her class. A review of Linda's second album, years ago was written up in the Streisand Fan Mag - "Like Butter" and it noted, can't get enough Babs - turn onto Linda Eder and her incredible voice. Well the time has come and people will say that of Linda. There has to be a follow up "Broadway - Volume II". The clearest voice, beautiful and sustained singing. Fantastic tribute to the composers and knock your socks-off orchestra! One minute powerful and over the top, the next, emotional, gentle and poetic - sentimental. Some old classics and standards, some original and new - ALL done as the very best! There is no comparison! Buy this one - you'll be glad you did. Linda Eder is intoxicating! Bravo! Encore! and, thank you Linda and Frank!

Spectacular, Original..even Groundbreaking,

For years, Linda Eder has been compared to legendary singers like Judy Garland and Ella Fitgerald, but the one singer who many think Eder most closely resembles vocally is Barbra Streisand..(they both share a similar tone and range). With the release of "Broadway, My Way", Eder breaks away from all comparisons, firmly establishing a style all her own, and, incredibly enough, putting her own mark on these broadway classics. Already, this CD and its performer are receiving its share of accolades. The day after the CD went on sale, Eder performed for the third time to a sellout crowd at Carnegie Hall and received numerous standing ovations and critical acclaim, including a rave review in Variety. Her other two engagements there were greeted with similar raves and ovations. This isn't surprising given that Broadway, My Way represents something of a groundbreaking achievement. There are a lot of great broadway songs, but finding songs that haven't been recorded to death, or recorded with the same arrangements over and over has to be incredibly tough. Not only does Eder find several gems that have been passed over by others...the powerful and timely "Anthem" from Chess, the showstopping, spine-tingling "I Am What I Am" from La Cage Aux Folles, and an absolutely etheral "Edleweiss", but Eder also tackles a number of songs men made famous and makes them sound like they were written specifically for her. Theres "On the Street Where You Live" sung in an exquisite, feminine soprano, with crystalline notes held in a smooth as silk vibrato. Eder IMO is one of the best broadway belters EVER, and brings new meaning to "The Impossible Dream" and "What Kind of Fool Am I?" "Anthem" will send chills down your spine (as will many others on this CD). Arrangements are all fresh and original, with lush orchestrations that perfectly compliment Eder's voice. To be sure, this CD is not without its risks, but they all pay off 100% and more. Eder tackles "Don't Rain on My Parade", sending it to new heights with a powerful, controlled belt. She has received such acclaim for her rendition of this song in newspaper reviews and broadway forumns that it appears some of Babs fans are becoming overly defensive. They need not worry. Eder breaks the mold with this CD, showing the extent of her incredible range, adding a certain sexiness and warmth, and firmly establishing herself as one of the best (if not THE BEST) singer alive today.

The Linda Eder Album we've all been waiting for!,
By J. Martin "ffej26" (Woodside, NY) - See all my reviews

Finally Linda Eder has put out a full album of broadway favorites instead of relying on her husband Frank Wildhorn to create new, and sometimes unoriginal songs for her albums. Linda uses her magnificant, powerful belt to full effect on almost every song here. Highlights include her stirring rendition of Anthem from Chess, the breathtaking Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha, and the brassy Don't Rain on My Parade from Funny Girl. Also included are Linda classics from her previous albums such as A New Life from Jekyll and Hyde, the stunning Unusual Way from Nine, and Man of La Mancha. Her voice is just as powerful and dramatic as it ever was. Linda was meant to sing Broadway. Proving again she is one of the worlds top vocalists, this album will not disappoint!

Linda Takes Broadway to a New Level,
By Jason R. Marks (Winchester, VA United States) - See all my reviews

Linda's voice is finally back where it belongs - in the great repertoire of classic and contemporary music theatre. Fans who may have been dissapointed with her last release, "Gold", will be pleasantly surprised and relieved to her "the voice" back in her own swimming pool.Linda performs songs mostly done by men, but what is most wonderful is that it WORKS!! Her takes of "I Am What I Am" from La Cage Aux Folles, and "Some People" are true theatrical bang, and she belts to her full potential, giving these songs new life for today's modern audiences. Speaking of 'new life', Linda's new recording of "A New Life" from Jekyll & Hyde is simply outstanding, and better than ever. And Barbra - move over, sweety - you may be like "buttah", but Linda's "Don't Rain on My Parade" may possibly drown you out! Every moment of listening to this great album reminds us why we go to the theatre - to be thrilled, dazzled, and moved emotionally all at the same time. Linda does this, and so much more. Keep singing, Linda. We're all listening!

Broadway My Way,

February 18, 2003Linda Eder's latest solo album, Broadway My Way, is by far the most incredible collection of Broadway music I have ever heard. You won't find many of the same songs that have been recorded over and over through the years by other great female vocalists. What you will find are selections carefully chosen by Linda (some with a "little" push from her huge fan base!), each one being special to her in its own way. You will learn so much about what prompted her to choose the songs she did by reading her carefully prepared liner notes. Each arrangement has a special touch which makes listening a unique and new experience. The selections demonstrate how this amazing singer can move from the softest emotion-filled touch ("I'll Be Seeing You," "Anthem," "On The Street Where You Live," "Gold," "Unusual Way," "The Impossible Dream," "Edelweiss," "A New Life") to the biggest belt you've ever heard ("What Kind of Fool Am I?," "Some People," "Don't Rain On My Parade," "Man Of La Mancha," "I Am What I Am"). Without reservation, I highly recommend this album to every fan of Broadway music as well as to every fan of music in general. Linda Eder will not disappoint you with the incredible Broadway My Way. Congratulations, Linda!

Simply Exquisite,

I've heard so many reviewers and fans cat-fighting over whether or not it's appropriate to compare the incomparable Streisand to the lesser known but just as phenomenal Eder, and I say comparisons are a-okay. When Barbra first entered the scene she was often compared to Judy Garland and other "belters" of her early days, so it's only natural that Linda will be held up under the same scrutiny. To even be compared to Streisnd is an honor. Admittedly, when I heard Linda's first line of "Don't Rain On My Parade" it was so Streisand-ish, I got chills. After the first line, however, the song became Linda's and her rendition is as flawless as I've heard a song performed. With her multi-octave range and full-throaty vocals, she's very reminiscent of the Streisand vocals of the 70's and early 80's. Hearing the fullness of her voice, I would never have guessed she could have such a stunningly high range. And did somebody say she was over 40? Where the heck has she been all this time?? The only track I don't care much for on the CD is "The Impossible Dream", but it has nothing to do with Linda's flawless rendition...but has more to do with my loathing of those sappy-you-can-accomplish-anything-if-you-only-believe-hard-enough songs of that particular stripe. But, if I had to hear anyone sing it, it would be Linda. I only hope Linda can have the stay-ability that Barbra has had, and that at 60+ years, she can still belt it out like Barbra still can. Linda Eder is a phenomenal vocalist, one of the best of this century, in my estimation, and I'd recommend this CD to anyone who is either a fan of broadway, Barbra, Judy, or belters, in general. Linda Eder is a legend in the making. Linda Eder is Broadways answer to Celine Dion. Lastly, I only suggest to Barbra fans and Linda fans alike: Don't get so worked up over comparisons and to some who live to run-down new singers in the media. It has happened to all of them in the beginning and it merely serves to get people talking more about the artist. It's okay to compare the two phenomenal singers. Barbra has nothing to worry about, obviously, and Linda has MORE than enough talent and fans to allow her to carry herself.

Took my breath away,

After weathering 20+ inches of snow on Monday, I made my way to the store and purchased 5 Broadway My Way CD's. I dropped them off to fans that I introduced Linda's voice to. I felt like Santa Claus!I've seen Linda 5 times within the past year and half and I have anticipated the release of this CD with baited breath. Well, she didn't disappoint me. She was incredible. Her voice brings me such joy in a time when we have so many heartaches. I believe that Linda Eder has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard (that's no lie). I gave 5 stars but Linda reached the highest of all. Thank you Linda.

Amazing........Linda Eder is simply amazing!,

Simple laymans terms can not convey the 'Voice' and the talent that this mere mortal posesses. At a recent NJ concert, Linda Eder mesmerized her fans once again with another outstanding performance. "I Am What I Am" is just that...she is what and who she is! Not only does she sing her favorite Broadway songs that are on the album, the team has added fan favorites such as 'Bring On The Men'---'Storybook'---'Havana' and the absolutely knock out pairing of "Losing My Mind/Unusual Way" to the show. It will leave you speechless. For you Broadway Music Lovers, this is the CD you have been searching for. I personally have never heard a better version of 'Some People'. The same with 'Edelweiss' there are 35 backround layers of Linda Eder's voice on that track. I know it's hard to explain, but it sounds awesome! What kind of Fool am I...I'll Be Seeing You...The Impossible Dream...Anthem...and the song that Linda's fans begged her to record, 'Don't Rain on My Parade' will satisfy your thirst for the old classics...done with a new twist. With Linda Eder, her husband Frank Wildhorn and Nan Knighton working on a new Broadway Mucical, "Camille Claudel" the featured song, 'GOLD' is part of the concert schedule as well as on the CD. Also added to the concert is another song from Camille called 'Coming Home'. I could go on and on with praise for this singer. I hope I have in some way assured you that acquiring this, or any of Linda's music will not be a dissapointment. She is simply amazing! I'd like to borrow the final line from Linda Eder's latest bio and share it with you. "Now is Linda Eder's time, and she's doing it Her Way!" God Bless You Linda! Please keep the music coming! We Love You! |
