5.0 out of 5 stars Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars
A lot has been said about how cruel it is to train animals and make them perform in public. While there may be some truth in this, this author who has more than 20 years experience training animals to perform live in braodway plays-and even in a ballet-has relied on care, support and insight into the characteristics of the animal for his success. The book makes for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Could've been better, August 10, 2008
This review is from: Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars (Paperback)
With the plethora of dog-training books and television shows available to consumers today, it was natural to believe this book would be the superstar amongst them - just as its subjects are superstars of the canine world. However, though the stories conveyed in this book remain inspiring - and the book's message (that rescuing orphaned animals from shelters and supporting that worthy cause) comes through loud and clear - the book reads more like a chronicle of events rather than a grab-the-reader-by- the-seat-of-their-pants- with-amazing-tales-of-unbelievable- feats-by-dogs story. It rather reads like a journal kept by the trainer to recall the events of each dog's story and the anecdotes sometimes associated with each (and these anecdotes, again, while interesting in content are told so robotically as to become I-guess-you-had-to-be-there moments. It's too bad. This book, in the hands of a more skilled writer could've become a classic. Still an interesting read; but be prepared to add your own 'umph'.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Dog Lovers Everywhere, March 8, 2009

This review is from: Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars (Paperback)
I bought this book as a gift to my daughter. We both have/had several rescue dogs and know how wonderful and smart they are. Most are so eager to please that they learn rapidly at any age. Anyone in a position to have a dog should go to the local shelter and bring one of these wonderful animals into their family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life after the anitcruelity homes, February 8, 2009
This review is from: Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars (Paperback)
This book is a great book for animal lovers. The gentleman who rescused these animals is a very dedicated animal lover. He also is a great person who knows how to treat animals, but also has great respect for them. The stories are very heart warming and shows us a side to "show business" that we usually are not aware of in our day to day lives. It is very enjoyable and good for vacations or a Sunday afternoon instead of TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars As wonderful to read as to work with, August 1, 2010
This review is from: Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars (Paperback)
Bill Berloni is not only a fantastic writer, but also a trainer. I have been fortunate enough to work with one of his trainers and a "Sandy" and was highly impressed by the detail and dedicated both dog and trainer put in. The fact that the dogs are all rescued and have a home waiting for them when they retire from the theatre, only increases the amount of respect I have for him. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Broadway Tails and nuns, January 19, 2009
This review is from: Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars (Paperback)
Broadway Tails is a gem of a book for animal lovers and Broadway theater lovers and for those who are neither. Author Berloni's love for his animals is obvious on every page as he prepares them for the Broadway stage. And most importantly he sees that the animals are well cared for after the closing of the show. Recently I shared this book in a presentation with the Sisters of St. Francis, Rochester, MN. I often present classes on the Broadway musicals and this one was a HIT, with Katie and Joey, two collies, assisting me. The nuns loved it as they related their stories about their pets. Katie and Joey never had so many hugs and kisses and applause.

Excellent book for the dog lover. I heard the author and animal lover Bill Berloni interviewed on PBS radio, and had to read the book. It's full of stories and pictures about the dogs and other animals he's rescued and trained for Broadway and TV shows.

This is a wonderful book, lovingly written, about Bill Berloni's unusual and fascinating career. And the work he's done rescuing and training dogs over 30 years is a remarkable testament to his humanity and creativity. An extremely entertaining read, for animal, as well as theater, lovers.
