This review is from: Broadway's Fair Julie (Audio CD)
As a huge Julie Andrews fan, I couldn't wait to get this CD. I remembered the agony of waiting...and waiting...ugh. I wanted it SO bad! hehe. But, it came and I went CRAZY! It shows all the beautiful sides of Julie's voice. From the boisterous "I Don't Care", to the serene "Sleepin Bee" to the exciting "I Feel Pretty" it's one heck of a CD! You've got you vaudeville, your Broadway, your Ballads and your story-songs that both crack you up and break your heart ("My Mother Was A Lady" and "She Is More To Be Pitied Then Censured" from to mind). This is one of Julie's greatest CDs!!...

5.0 out of 5 stars A DELIGHTFUL TREAT FOR FANS OF JULIE ANDREWS, September 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These ultra-rare, long out-of-print albums, recorded in the early 1960's, are a real treat for fans of Julie Andrews. Tracks from these albums have appeared on other anthologies and compilation albums. But these two albums are presented here on one CD in their complete original form. I can't believe I found this on Amazon, at a nice price in great condition. The sound quality is especially crisp and clear. These albums, both featuring a confident, self-assured Julie in excellent voice, were recorded after she achieved Broadway stardom in "The Boyfriend","My Fair Lady" and "Camelot", and shortly before she achieved mega-superstardom in Hollywood.

"Broadway's Fair Julie" is an excellent sampling of songs from stage musicals. It is familiar, but very comfortable, territory for Julie, and she offers tender, individualistic renditions of such standards as "This Is New", "I Didn't Know What Time It Was", "How Long Has This Been Going On?", "How Are Things In Glocca Morra?" and "If Love Were All." Julie's rendition of "I Feel Pretty" from "West Side Story" is especially vibrant and thrilling.

I suspect Julie had more fun recording the "Raucous Ditties" album. This album harks back to Julie's early days performing in British Music Hall/vaudeville. The "Raucous Ditties" are decidedly more obscure and less familiar than the previous Broadway standards, but they allow Julie to display more color and character. This album features the original version of the classic "Burlington Bertie From Bow." Julie subsequently sang this song, with a shorter, more brisk tempo, in the 1968 movie musical "Star!". She also sang it for decades in her concert acts. But this original version, with Julie putting on posh airs and a cheeky, irreverent, and slighty snobby manner is a delight; and far superior to the subsequent "Star! movie soundtrack version.
Julie completely cuts loose here on such songs as "I Don't Care", "Alexander's Ragtime Band", "Mistress Murphy's Chowder", "Smarty" "Waiting At The Church (My Wife Won't Let Me") and "Everybody's Doing It Now" ; displaying the trademark exuberence and fun that characterize her early movie performances in "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound Of Music."
