Why Spot Heating Makes Sense in Your Home

You hastily get ready every morning, head for work, the office, or school, just when the central heating system has finished warming the entire house. It's about as inefficient as it gets. Spot heating solves that problem. No longer will you heat an entire home when you simply need a bit of comfort in the bath or dressing room, or any other room.

Efficient Heating Element

Even the most efficient central heating systems send heat up the chimney. But Broan spot heaters deliver every bit of energy back into your home. There's no external venting, so the electricity you convert to heat is delivered directly where you want it.

Simple, Safe, and Efficient.

Permanently lubricated motors are quiet and require no maintenance. They can be operated by a built-in adjustable thermostat or an optional wall-mount controller. Heaters may be converted in the field to a choice of wattages/voltages. And for safety, heaters are thermal overload protected and the complete heater assembly conveniently removes from the housing for cleaning.

About Broan-NuTone

Today, Broan-NuTone leads the industry with forward-thinking residential ventilation products, customized climate, communications and storage solutions and superior customer service. The Broan brand focuses on range hoods, ventilation fans, heater/fan/light combination units, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) fresh air systems, built-in heaters, whole-house fans, attic ventilators and trash compactors, while the NuTone brand offers door chimes, central vacuum systems, stereo intercom systems, medicine cabinets, ironing centers, ceiling fans and ventilation fans.

The directions are very UNCLEAR as to whether this can touch attic insulation.

The lamp seems sturdy and does it's job to warm up the bathroom after showering on a cold morning.

This heat lamp is perfect for my small bathroom. It was easy to install because my bathroom wallboard was off and the studs were exposed in my remodeling. The cover is very attractive and the lamps keep my bathroom toasty. It is much appreciated when I'm coming out of the shower.

I bought the red Sylvania 250 watt heat lamps to go with this unit, and it works great. Good for a decent size bathroom. I'm ordering the single bulb model for my guest bath which is smaller. I have mine on a leviton timer switch.

I have had this installed in a 10'x10' bathroom in Pennsylvania for a month now. I wanted my bathroom warmer, but did not want a space heater sitting around, nor did I want to spend $$ on in floor heating. It works great and takes the chill off on cold mornings. I hate a cold bathroom. I mounted this in the middle of the ceiling where I stand to dry and shave. You have to understand that it primarily heats what it shines on as opposed to heating the whole room, although it does that somewhat with the door closed. There is also a small fan mounted in the housing that functions to keep the heat out of the housing and down below where it belongs. You cannot feel the air flow, that's not what it's for. The directions are very UNCLEAR as to whether this can touch attic insulation. I left it run for about 10 minutes, then climbed up in the attic and touched the housing which was cool to the touch. I covered mine up with the blown insulation and my house hasn't burned down yet :) I tried the one white/one red bulb combination. The white is WAY TOO BRIGHT . . . I think I fried a retina. I switched to both reds and it is much better. The 8 lights on the fixture above my sink more that wash out the red. If you have a single bulb bathroom light, you will see more red. I would highly recommend the TWO bulb fixture. I don't see how a single could put out enough heat. I run it for 5/10 minutes at a time and have not noticed any significant change in my electric bill.

Summary: I've given this product four stars because of a problem I've had with overheating and melting of the plastic cover, which I will explain in detail below. I will update my rating as it becomes clear whether this is a chronic problem or an isolated case.

I recently purchased a new home and was delighted to find a heater in the bathroom above the Jacuzzi tub. Unfortunately, my girlfriend did not realize what it was and left it turned on all afternoon. When I came in the bathroom I noticed the heat and realized one of the springs had melted straight through it's mounting point on the plastic cover. I can't find anything wrong with the unit's installation or function, but at the same time I haven't seen any other reports of plastic melting from extended use so I'm at a loss for whether this is an isolated problem or possibly common to this product.

A temporary fix was to drill a small hole in the plastic tab next to the original hole and reconnect the spring. I'm sure it will be fine until the next time it's accidentally left on, which leads me to think I should probably put it on a 30 minute timer to avoid extended use.

If anyone else has encountered this problem, please reply so other customers will know whether it is something they should be aware of.

On a side note, the previous owners had installed clear bulbs and they are terribly bright, especially when laying in the tub below. I just ordered (2) GE 37771 R40 Heat Lamp, Red, 250-Watt which I expect will result in less visible light and a more comfortable atmosphere.

When we asked our contractor about putting in a heat lamp during our bathroom remodel, he said, "No one uses those anymore." I guess we're old school because we found this lamp on Amazon and had him install it. It's a great upgrade from the old version that came out during demolition. The small fan inside the enclosure helps to distribute the heat from the lamps more widely in the bathroom -- just enough to take away the chill. In Arizona, that's plenty. In Minnesota, you might need something more like a space heater.

Works well. After about a year is trouble free. Remember this unit only uses 500 watts of power so you are not going to heat up a large bathroom with it. It does work great in my small bathroom and we placed it so that you are standing under it when drying off from a shower so it helps you to be nice and toasty. The little fan behind the bulbs is not noisy like larger units,

Installing without access from above...it was a half day job to make sure I got it right...but the result is so sweet. We used it the final weeks of winter and it was so much superior to our space heater which uses more juice. Looking forward to next winter...yeah, that sounds weird I know. ;-)
