I am happy with this fan. Uses two 40W candelabra bulbs. Light has only On or Off setting. I wish the lights were brighter or maybe it's that they are not a focused beam, or maybe the unit sits higher than my old under-cabinet unit. The lights seem to be situated more to the back of the stove than they would be with an under-cabinet unit.
Fan has 3 settings. Low is pretty quiet, high is somewhat noisy but not bad. The controls are sliders. The fan has 3 distinct settings: low, medium, and high. This unit plugs in; it is not designed to be hard-wired. I bought this to go with the Broan LB30 30-Inch Hood Liner. I bought an older home that had an empty-inside wood hood (no over stove cabinet) and thought the liner would slip right in there, we pop the fan in, and that's it. I downloaded all the instructions, spec sheets, etc., I could find online ahead of time. The instructions (both from the web and from the box) when utilizing the liner are confusing. My contractor had to call the 800# for advice and that person told him that the liner is not designed to hold up the fan. He said you have to either have a cabinet or build a box. In effect, the liner is just to cover up the wood, protect it, and give a stream-lined look. After some discussion we decided to just use the liner to hold up the fan and it seems very solid. The liner installs with the opening pointing down (concave), so the bottom of the fan unit ends up 4" above the bottom of the hood and is hidden. I posted some photos. It's slightly awkward reaching under and/or looking under to locate and move the switches which are on the bottom of the fan unit. I'm sure it will become automatic with use. For my situation, this unit combined with the liner were perfect. The finished project looks very professional and was way less costly than a custom hood. It was not possible to find a matching cabinet in order to install a ready-made under-cabinet fan unit. The cost for this fan unit, the liner, and labor was less than or equal to what it would have cost for an off-the-shelf fan unit, non-matching over-stove cabinet, and labor.

My wife and I first went to our local appliance store. The price we paid through amazon for the same exact product was over $100.00 cheaper. It is exactly what we wanted. It is a quiet but powerful fan. We did struggle with installation but that was totally due to the lack of accessability above the hood, but we did it. Looks and works great.

The Broan Range Hood is great. It arrived as advertised. We could not believe the packaging they provided to ensure the hood would not get damaged in transit. This is a great value from a great company. It was a pleasure to do business with such an outstanding company.

I bought this unit as well as the liner for a 30" hood for a custom made vent hood. The instructions are great and I was able to download them and build the hood to the proper dimensions while the items were being shipped.
The unit is already wired with a standard three prong plug which simplifies installation. One thing to note is that it has a 6" round vent connection when prepping your vent for install. The unit is pretty quiet and powerful. The funtion is top notch. My only complaint would be with the appearance and lighting. I feel the unit could be updated with better lights and a more modern look. Its not what I would call a deal breaker but it gives the unit a bit of a dated feel and look. Since you can't really see it I am ok with the look. Overall I really like this product and it gets the job done well.

We had to gut our kitchen due to a fire. We purchased the ductless kit to go along with it because our previous unit was also ductless and insurance only pays for like-for-like replacements. The cabinet guy installed this new one, so I don't have any information on how that went. In addition to the ductless conversion kit I also bought the available liner to catch potential splatters, plus I thought metal would be safer than wood in case of a grease fire. Unfortunately the cabinet guy didn't incorporate the liner into the custom build. After six months of usage without the liner everything has been fine. A gourmet cook probably wouldn't be happy with this unit nor would someone who does a lot of deep frying, but it's been an adequate unit for me. I cook everyday, but I only use the fan 2-3 times a week. Air flow seems fine. When I burn something in the oven, causing the smoke alarm go off, the hood fan alone usually takes care of it within a few minutes. For a ductless exhaust fan at this price point I'm pleased. One perk, unlike my old model, the light bulbs are easily accessible. On the downside, they're not very bright.

Tough Install But Worthwhile,

Probably easier in new construction but difficult to install as a retrofit in an existing wood canopy (with LB30 insert or similar). You'll likely need help. Good choice for an open counter or island setup. Powerful, quiet 3-speed fan motor. Clean look once installed. The cooktop lighting could be better - 80 watts total but quite a bit of that is dissipated inside the housing. The controls are oddly placed on the bottom so they're over the cooking surface. Have to wonder how that will last after years of cooking. Overall - a good choice.

I recieved this fan in a plain box, not packaged too well, so it was a little dinged up and missing some hardware. I now have it mounted and it works like I was hoping it would.

Product is exactly as advertised; price was competitive and arrived as estimated!
Selecting a kitchen vent can be confusing and expensive. We wanted an externally vented hood that could fit in our over-the-stove cabinet. Due to cost restraints we needed to search for a vent with an internal centrifugal blower and the Broan PMA390 fit this requirement. Our contractor was surprised we found a relatively inexpensive vent that fit our requirements and that had substantial venting capabilities. The vent silver color finish blends well with our stainless steel appliances. Thus far my only wish for improvement would be the noise [due to internal vs external blower] as the vent is a bit noisy when working at the mid and highest sones and while the light feature is adequate a brighter light would be appreciated.

I remodel homes on the mid- to high-range and we have not liked many of the range hood inserts we've gotten. I wanted to review this one to let everybody know the Broan is HIGH quality and even more important, comes with all mounting hardware which others DO NOT ALWAYS DO! (I know, amazing isn't it?) We have installed two of the Broan's so far and both worked flawlessly.
