No matter what, the price of this book is far from reasonable. But if you go ahead and buy it, you will value its smooth and balanced coverage.
It has a concise reader-friendly format; and include the most recent discoveries in all the branches of microbiology. Its well-illustrated chapters are both cohesive and consistent. Still, extraneous details can be found in some of the sections.
This is a good all-round microbiology text: the type of book many enthusiasts would like to see in CD-ROM. However, its high price will prove a strong deterrent for most potential buyers.

This book does a great job in reviewing the basic tenets of microbiology, however, it doesn't delve into near as much detail as needed for any micro major or graduate student. Sections on molecular bio of bacteria are particularly bad, and metabolic pathways are given only a brief overview (entner-doudoroff has less than 2 pages). That being said, the book does do an excellent job in surveying the vast numbers of microbes, and it virology section is above average for a bacteriology book. Decent intro book, but anyone going into detail should buy something else.

I used this textbook for my undergraduate microbiology class and found it very descriptive and complete. I would recommend this textbook to anyone preparing for class exams. However, what really helped was the following book:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
(ISBN: 0971999635) by Patrick Leonardi
If you want to know the type of questions on your next microbiology exams get this study guide. Buy both books since they both helped my friends and I pass the class exams with ease.

I got this book for an introductory class on microbiology. As part of a course it is OK. As others have pointed out there are some sections that could have been done better. For me the main issue was this was not so easy to read. I know it is college level, but for example my introductory biology and chemistry books did not suck the life out of everything and even had helpful little side articles that connected things up.

If you are a professor I suggest using a different textbook, and of course you are better qualified to find said book. My issue was that this book was dull and I am interested in the subject so that shouldn't have been the case.

Although it is an older edition textbook than what my class requires, it still goes along with the class just as good as the newer version that is at least 10x's the price of what I paid. The textbook is in amazing condition and looks brand new. I was very pleased with the fast shipping and am glad I didn't pay extra for rush order because it came within 2-3 days. I would absolutely purchase textbooks again from this company and am very pleased with their price & convenience.

The pictorial elements in this book does not demonstrate the concepts really well. reading the book is ok, but having descriptive graphics will be easier to understand.

I fear I confused this book with the lab manual ordered from another company and gave it a poor rating. If so, I apologize. This book was ordered on Aug. 16 and arrived by Aug. 23. Thank you for you prompt delivery.
