Brockes Passion is a 2009 harmonia mundi s.a. under the direction of René Jacobs who leads the Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin. We also have the privilege to listen to RIAS Kammerchor. The booklet is quite massive, i.e., close to 130 pages. Carsten Lange has written the music notes and these have been translated into English by Charles Johnston. The lyrics are available in German, French and English. Included are also short biographies of the conductor, soloists, the choir and the orchestra. Also included are portraits of Telemann himself and Bartold Heinrich Brockes. Highly recommended indeed. 5/5.

Ahhhh... un peu de débats sur Amazon pour ce disque qui a fait une grosse publicité pour sa sortie. Commentaires animés et opinions partagées... je ne m'en mêlerai pas : j'aime ce double cd que j'écoute souvent. Telemann n'a pas la même notoriété que Bach, Handel ou Vivaldi, mais il en a eu davantage qu'eux de son vivant. Telemann est un mélodiste génial et son énergie créatrice n'a rien à envier aux précités. La passion du Christ est un sujet baroque par excellence, Telemann l'écrit aussi bien que Bach : cette musique fond dans l'oreille, pas dans la main !
