This is the greatest!,

This review is from: Broil King Model 94628 Crown 20 Post-Style 44,000 BTU Natural Gas Grill (Lawn & Patio)
This grill suits my needs. I wanted a grill fixed to the ground because I enjoy grilling on my side deck that's right off the kitchen, I also enjoy not having to worry about how full my propane tank is. So this post mount natural gas grill was a perfect fit.
What makes this grill over-the-top awesome? (some of these comments compare my new Broil King to my old Charmglow) * The side shelves are made of very durable material, and it's easy to clean. The side shelves also have drink *beer holders* that are far offset from the grilling surface to keep the brew cool * The grill has a thermometer that works! And the ignitor works too. * You don't have to use briquettes with the flav-r-wave, but you can if you want to * The grilling surface is huge, no space wasted, and the upper rack is twice the cooking size, even though my charmglow grill was about the same overall size. * The instruction manaul that comes with the grill is mind blowing - pictures, sturdy, color manual with recipes, instructions for care, index, ideas. It's written by folks that genuinely want you to enjoy your grill! * There's really not much assembly to do - I'm a bean counter and figured it out. * The knobs to hang your brushes from are a nice touch * I bought this on amazon and the shipping was great - not a nick on the box * I searched for a grill like this for hours and this one had a good price too.

Very nice grill. Very easy to assemble. Having been using it almost daily since I got it. My only complaint is they need to include the measurements for the post. This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. I searched all over the internet to try and find the dimisions of the post so I could see if it would fit over my existing bracket (that is installed in concrete). I finally looked at the dimensions for the post extension and got them there. The post dimensions said it was 6" wide. However, when I got the grill, the post is actually about 5" wide. 6" would have fit. 5" does not. So I had to build some adapter brackets to get it to work. Regardless, not a lot difficult work, just took a little time. Very nice grill and look forward to using it year round. Also, the side shelves are awesome! Very large and love how they fold out of the way when not in use.

I was in need of a new natural gas grill. I had a Broilmaster which was nice and sturdy. The price of a new one started at $800. I saw this grill, which was a little bigger, and decided to order it. WOW! What a great investment. It was very easy to install and it works wonderfully!! Do not hesitate to order it. Great item!!!

We needed to replace our post-mounted grill and I found out that they are not easy to find. If you can find one, they start at about $800 plus $300 installation. We thought we would try this one from Amazon and do it ourselves. The shipping took almost two weeks! The shipper (CEVA) is terrible. When it finally got to OHare it just sat there for days without moving. After many calls to CEVA with no results, an email to Amazon finally rattled some cages, and it eventually got here. The instructions are terrible, all pictures, and very confusing. When you call the tech help phone number the people up in Canada are nice, but they really don't have a clue to installing it with the "post in ground" method. Also the description is not completely clear on this, but you MUST buy either the extension post or the deck base kit. On the grill we replaced there is only one post, the post that goes all the way from the grill head to down into the ground. With this grill you have to put the extension post (seperate purchase) into the ground and then the post that comes with the grill attaches to that. The grill has a lot of power and gets very hot. The thermometer that is on the hood reads quite a bit lower than the oven thermometer that I put inside the grill in the center. According to my oven thermometer, after an initial heat up period, turning the burners all the way down produces a temp of 350f. Of course if you only had one side of the burner going you could bring that down further. With the burners set to medium, the grill is 450. The cast iron cooking grates are nice and heavy, and seem to have a generous porcelain coating. My old grill had the handle in front which I prefer to the handles on the side. But it is a nice barbecue, and it is so wonderful to have a new grill!

Can Someone Say,"You Shouldn't Use Plastic On A Grill?",
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Broil King Model 94628 Crown 20 Post-Style 44,000 BTU Natural Gas Grill (Lawn & Patio)
The basic part of this setup, the grill, is a well thought out very powerful little piece of grilling. I do not remember reading here or on any comments that the side pieces for this version, are plastic. Who in their right mind would place cheap worthless plastic, next to a grill reaching a few hundred degrees?
After getting the grill together, which was easy if you can read a comic book, there was no way that I was going to leave the flimsy plastic ends, which are butting up to the grill, on for this install. That was a let down, since the whole package was going into an existing grill space. I removed the flimsy side pieces and worked the install around just the grill. The grill works like a dream. After looking over other versions of this grill, not the two burner post version, it looks like the ones that have side burners are made with metal ends. The grill reached temps so high, so fast, those plastic ends would have either melted or collapsed, if they were left on. Just be aware of this situation and proceed accordingly.

I replaced a 30 year old still working Patio Kitchen in ground post mount grill which was beyond its normal life span. I did have a full feature Ducane Propane grill which which was ok but not as convienent to use as a natural gas grill especially when the tank runs out in the middle of something. Somebody offered to buy it so I sold it which inspired me to look at new natural gas grills which are not as common as they were 30 years ago. The Broil King was one of few available at a reasonable price. I was able to install it over my existing post which simplified the installation and eliminated the need for the optional mounting post. It did require additional post concrete to make it stable. The original copper gas line also fit the new setup further simplifying installation. This grill heats up fast and gets very hot and is simple to use - left and right burners, spark igniter and a built in temperature guage. The snap lock left and right plastic shelves aren't elaborate but convenient and spend most of the time in the down position. I found a Weber grill cover that fits over everything with the shelves in the dowwn position making the grill assembly look far less massive when not in use. My old grill needed briquettes for proper function, this one doesn't. In conclusion this grill does what I want it to and is better than my previous natural gas grill and I also like it better than the propane grill I sold.

What I am most pleased with the Broil King 94628 Crown Post Natural Gas Grill is Broil King's technical support. She was from Canada, I believe, and was excellent. Received on time motor freight shipment; Inventoried items in the box and proceeded with installation. Modified new support component to my existing post. Installed a new NG ball valve on the gas supply line at the post and performed a gas leak test as described and recommeded in the operations manual. Placed the grill in service one week ago without any issues. Electronic ignition works just fine and grill performs better than I expected. It is not recommended to use briskets and glad I called the tech again to confirm this and other incidential questions I had. Suggest any new users read the operations manual completely before using grill. Safety first! A chef I am not, just another user guy trying to look for the next opportunity to use my grill this weekend.

Grill works great. Excellent design. It has a metal plate in the bottom instead of rocks and it tastes great. The built-in thermometer in the top is very helpful. Instructions are the universal picture style with nothing written, just like what comes in some aftermarket auto parts or accessories. When assembling the grill, don't tighten the screws until you have them all started. If you don't, you may find yourself disassembling and reassembling parts which can be frustrating. Don't assemble the upper part of the grill until you have the base, then start there, at the base. There are only a handful of nuts and bolts. To me, assembly was pretty novice.(I am an auto technician) The warmer part of the grill installs in the top that swings open, then rests in the notches in the bottom part of the grill.

I have been using a natural gas grill that is over a decade old. You get so used to it that it is hard to believe that there is something better available. When I retired my old grill for the Broil King Crown 20, I had a very pleasant surprise. No ceramic fake coals. No flames shooting up from the burners. Better temperature control. Temperature even throughout the cooking surface (no cold or hot spots). Lastly, an ignitor that actually works. Through Amazon I got a great deal on the grill which included free shipping. That is a big deal when shipping a heavy grill. A+ |
