A really nice addition,

Well, of course nothing will beat the original soundtrack recording (which is why I give this four stars instead of five), but if you're a fan of this movie, this recording is a nice addition to your collection.
The versions of the instrumental themes are all in keeping with the mood of the movie (with a touching solo guitar version of "The Wings"), that sound just different enough to be interesting. (They use a synthesizer instead of slide guitar.) I found the mixes to be very listenable, with a bit of variety yet staying true to the story. In the main songs, there are different versions of two vocals, "King of the Road" by Boxcar Willie, and "It's So Easy" by Waylon Jennings -- which I actually liked better than the Linda Ronstadt version used in the movie. (When is that woman going to learn that bellowing is not singing?) There's also a bonus track section of four songs "inspired by the movie", including Willie Nelson's version of "To Each His Own" and Bobby Bare sings "Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends" to close it. Very appropriate....

I want to revise my original review of this CD. Nothing compares to the original music from the motion picture soundtrack and Oscar Promo as it is so beautiful and touching. The short story, film, and the music have touched me deeply. I listened to this version today and I now have a kinder opinion. The music has a beautiful, haunting quality. Almost like the memories of Ennis of his happier days on Brokeback Mountain and when Jack was alive. The vocals are still pretty awful except for Willie, and Cline.

Too similar, not much advance,

the music in this CD is too similar to the orignal OST. I can't feel this CD is played by orchestra. Isn't it played by orchestra? disappointed but I already have the original OST and I am in BBM's world. Thus, I have to buy this one....and...That's all.

Like many, I remain smitten by the story, the movie and the original soundtrack. This "differnt" rendition fills that gap wanting an extension to the instrumental portions of the original.

Magnificent Music,

This CD contains some really magnificent music. I always like pseudo soundtracks. They are good because you get to hear different versions of the music. This CD is outstanding.

I have the soundtrack, which I like a lot, but I like this better. There are extended versions of the instrumental background music, which is very nice. The other songs, not in the movie, are appropriate and very fitting for the movie also. I really like this CD.

First 5 or 6 tracks contain the complete, haunting incidental music that my wife likes so much. There is less country/western music than on the official soundtrack album. This is the album that everyone wishes they got when they buy the official soundtrack. My only complaint is that the background suite is only about 15 minutes worth of music, wish there was more to it.

Out of phase!,

As the title of this review implies. The music of the soundtrack, sounds as if it's being performed a quarter or a half step out of phase.
It sounds terrible! I thought that this would be an orchestral version of Gustabal Santollala's wonderful film score. And the bonus tracks are taken from live recording, rather than studio tracks. A bad buy. Skip this one! |
