5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Soundtrack Ever Made!
The soundtrack to "Broken Arrow" is truly a masterpiece from start to finish. Hans Zimmer makes beautiful scores for the first three minutes of each track, then dives into them and makes a tour de force of music magic! Don't get turned off because the CD only has eight tracks. The average time for each track is about eight minutes. If you're a film buff, then...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as other Zimmer scores...
The only reason I am giving it 3 stars and not 2 is because it has got some enjoying themes, especially the solo bass-guitar sequences. But infact they are used so seldom, and in many cases the music sounds like a clash of instruments. Not as good as "The Rock", "Crimson Tide" or "Face off".

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best action scores out there, but needs a better release, April 13, 2002
This review is from: Broken Arrow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
For such a mediocre film Broken Arrow sure has a score that soars past the quality of the images that inspired it. Without Hans Zimmer's music it does not have a chance on its own two legs.

Zimmer uses the music to explore a zillion different moods and atmospheres from sad to sinister, and action-packed to supersonic. He uses everything at his disposal: children's choirs with angelic and haunting voices, heavy guitar melodies, pounding drums, sad, lonely trumpets, booming synth, and eerie bells. I'm not kidding, Zimmer gives it absolutely everything he's got and has created a highly thematic and engaging score. Why can't he go back to scoring movies like this.

There are multiple themes (the main melody itself reconfigured from Zimmer's own Paperhouse) across the eight tracks. But, as with the Paperhouse CD, Zimmer has arranged the music in long suites that are completely out of chronological order and leave many omissions.

This eight-track CD runs for 59 minutes and 14 seconds. The COMPLETE and CHRONOLOGICAL score runs for 87 minutes and 34 seconds with the following track listing:

01. Main Title / Boxing / Locker Bet (5:03)
02. Reveal The Stealth / Nukes / Cockpit Chatter (1:53)
03. Transition (0:39)
04. Stealth Mode / Deak's Story / Narrowed Eyes (6:20)
05. Flight Command Discovers Crash (0:18)
06. The Brass Confer (1:16)
07. First Team Arrives / Nukes Are Gone (2:43)
08. Hale Alone In Desert / Hale Meets Terry (3:44)
09. Helicopter Attacks Hale / Chopper Explodes (3:50)
10. Giles & Lomax Compare Notes / Haz-Mat Team (2:14)
11. Hale Sees Convoy / Jump To Trunk / Gas Bomb (4:53)
12. The Old Mine / Offloading Nukes / Deak In Pursuit (1:53)

CD2
01. Hale & Deak Talk / Nukes Armed / Deak To Mine / Shootout (15:50)
02. Deak Kills Pritchett / Water Escape / EMP (2:17)
03. Butterflies / Comfort (1:57)
04. Deak's Feelings / Boat Stowaways / Split Up (3:28)
05. Hale Talks To Lomax / The Rope-A-Dope (2:19)
06. Deak's Getaway Plan / Stowaway / Hammer Time (2:18)
07. Faceoffs / Standoffs / Gun Battle / Rotor Death / Impaled (17:05)
08. Finding $20 Bill / Terry & Hale Introduce Themselves / End Credits (7:34)

Perhaps one day a better label than Milan (such as La-La Land Records) will release the complete score. But for now, by this CD and cherish it. All score collector should own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Arrow is right on Target!, January 30, 2002
By
This review is from: Broken Arrow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Hans Zimmer's work on the soundtrack for Broken Arrow is one of the things that movie great. The track I like the most is Broken Arrow alot like Crimson Tide and The Rock. It has wastern sound to it and alot of guitar in Deakins theme and in Hale's theme. A ton of action music and simply Hans Zimmer. And if you are Hans Zimmer fan and you don't have this soundtrack yet, make sure you get this CD the next time you buy a soundtrack. Buy it and you want regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Techno Take on Spaghetti Western Themes, August 8, 1999
By
This review is from: Broken Arrow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is definately one fun score. The themes are not quite as serious as those in "The Rock" and "Crimson Tide", and Zimmer's scoring style tends to wander more toward a "western" style with a cool guitar theme for Deakins. Make no mistake though, the action sequences are not below par at all for Zimmer. Each of the tracks features some pretty cool action music. The track titled "Mine" first introduces Hale's theme, a driving action theme that perfectly matches his heroic on-screen persona as portrayed by Christian Slater. The same theme plays near the end of the CD where Hale defeats Deakins in an epic fist fight to the finish. Different from other Zimmer scores for sure, but highly enjoyable. If you're a fan of Zimmer, Trevor Rabin or any of the other Media Ventures gang, check this CD out!

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid action score, December 20, 2002

Hans Zimmer does it again with this electronic score to Broken Arrow. Zimmer's trademark sound is found throughout each and every track. For the score, he uses his usual synths, this time with guitars, a harmonica, a synth trumpet, and a gigantic battery of percussion. The main theme is a 4 note guitar motif played several times throughout the score. A sampled children's choir can be found throughout as another motif, but is not heard nearly as much as the guitar motif is. The score is divided into 8 cues, several of which are over 10 minutes in length, but they run nicely together. The tempo for the most part is very quick and driving and hardly ever lets up. The action music explodes with force and power each time and keeps you listening. The best way to describe this score is kind of as a techno western like feel. The techno part is the tempo of most of the score and the western part is the harmonica passages and guitar theme. Zimmer fans will definitely enjoy this score, as well as those that are fans of solid action music. I think an orchestra would have sounded better than electronics, but nevertheless, the result is a good one. It never gets tiring and the fast tempo does not give you a headache. An all out great score.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Hans Zimmer's greatest, October 7, 2002

I would give Broken Arrow 4 and 1/2 stars, but it doesn't deserve a 5 star rating. This original score is awsome. It may not be like Crimson Tide, but the power behind each note fits the atmosphere of the movie to make it alive. The excellent moments in the last track creates a powerful theme. The CD is rarely found in retail stores, so the best bet is to purchase over the internet. : )™

5.0 out of 5 stars It gave me the creeps!, July 14, 1999

The reason I bought this soundtrack was the "Deakins Theme" by Duane Eddy. The first time I heard that music I nearly passed out. It gave me the creeps! Uh, I just love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Broken Zimmer, June 17, 2001
This review is from: Broken Arrow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The theme for "Broken Arrow" contains a very interesting writing by Hans Zimmer, using the talents of legendary guitarist Duane Eddy, who played the theme for "Peter Gunn" for legendary composer Henry Mancini. The action cues are truly superb, if not outstanding since one listens to some other action scores by Zimmer, and you discover certain notes that sound like "Drop Zone", or "The Rock". Another thing about this CD is that the music is arranged in suites that sometimes, when you get excited at one moment, you are quiet at the other, leaving you wanting for more. However, this work is really good.
