4.0 out of 5 stars Travolta's Ultra-Cool Villainy
A vast improvement over "Hard Target" (1993), director John Woo finds his Hollywood niche in this fast-paced thriller. Though it doesn't match the kinetic flair of Woo's Hong Kong epics, "Broken Arrow" (1996) delivers plenty of serial-style action while utilizing the Southern Utah landscape to striking effect. 3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of action in typical John Woo fashion
"Broken Arrow" is the story of the hijacking of nuclear weapons by a rogue Air Force officer (John Travolta). Without giving much away, Travolta is flying a high-tech B-3 bomber on a training mission armed with live nuclear weapons when things go awry. The film's raison d'être lies in the charismatic villainy of John Travolta - who has a wonderful time playing a traitorous military pilot and nuclear blackmailer. Christian Slater's efficient heroics are a good match for Travolta's diabolical cool. "Broken Arrow" is cheerfully preposterous and endlessly entertaining. Classic dialogue: "Would you mind not shooting at the thermonuclear weapons?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop ACTION & SUSPENSE, January 23, 2002

If you love action and adventure, this is a definite must-see! Christian Slater and John Travolta make a perfect good guy vs. villian mix, and while the plot may be a bit far out, you will never notice. The action will draw you in and keep you spellbound until the last scene. Mathis's role as the park ranger helping Slater save the day is a bit strained at times, but the effort is valiant, and by the end she's an old pro. Travolta's one-liners definitely make the movie. If you're going to be the bad guy, you've gotta have a stack of suave comebacks and wisecracks, and boy, has he got it! ...."Please try NOT to shoot at the thermonuclear weapons" from behind clenched teeth gets me every time. It's clear that though this is an action movie, it's also a mind game. Travolta's comments let the viewer inside his head, to feel like you are really there.

..."You're out of your mind!"...

..."Yeah, ain't it COOL?"....

You bet it is -- and the stunts will leave you gasping in wonder. From Mathis's near disembowelment by a thwocking chopper blade to Travolta's frantic attempts to catch his getaway pilot's attention, it's all fantastic. Howie Long is also fantastic as Kelly, one of Travolta's goons.

All in all, quite spetacular. I recommend it to everyone, but get your snacks before it starts because you won't want to miss a minute!

Great movie. The action scenes are intense and perfect. John Travolta as Deakins is magnificent because of his mimic and fantastic acting. The special effect are very good. And last but not least the explosions are great, big and a great sound. If you have not seen it rent it on DVD because of the sound,- and picture quality. Have fun!

Catching a line from this movie the suspense in this movie is "cool". John Travolta and Christian Slater are at odds in this 1996 movie on the theft of two nuclear warheads in rugged terrain of Utah. At times it has you on the edge of your seat. It certainly is a far cry from Travolta's roles in Grease and Saturday Night Fever but one of his best!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not broken...yet..., February 21, 2000

Broken Arrow, in 1996 it electified the big screen as John Travolta and Christian Slater Duke it out in an orgy of explosions and action...now its out on dvd. Well, ok, that is a very good thing, but let me tell you about it really. It is a very good movie, with some excellent directing by John Woo, not to mention good acting by Travolta and Slater. Also, there are some great one-liners, also the story is not lack-luster, and is in fact anything but, it is well thought out and surpasses by a longshot those other action gore-fests that are just that, gory action -- no brains. Over all this movie is very well done. I give it five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explosive fun!, April 20, 2002

This movie is more explosive than any other film I've ever seen! There's no sexuality, which you find in almost every action movie. It's fast paced action from beginning to end. I've seen about 15 times and I've never got tired of it! It's the best! The story is about major Diekens(Travolta) who's trying to steal 2 nuclear weapons from a Stealth Bomber. Only Captain Hail(Slater) knows about what he's trying to do! Then, he meets a park ranger(Samantha Mathis) and they try to stop Diekens from stealing the nuclear warheads. This is explosive, fun and not much glore, the best!!! I absolutely recommend this!!

"Broken Arrow" is the story of the hijacking of nuclear weapons by a rogue Air Force officer (John Travolta). Without giving much away, Travolta is flying a high-tech B-3 bomber on a training mission armed with live nuclear weapons when things go awry. Since this film is directed by John Woo, in typical fashion it features lots of action scenes, and they are well done. The really surprising thing about this film is Travolta: he does a very good job as the bad guy--not his usual role. The special effects in this film are startlingly realistic.

The storyline moves along at a brisk pace and holds the viewer's interest. It is always pretty clear where this one is going, but the trip is entertaining and enjoyable. RJB.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD JUMP FROM NORMAL DVD, February 11, 2009
This review is from: Broken Arrow [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Just got Broken Arrow BD yesterday & watched most of the movie. Its much better compared to the normal dvd.The picture is quite good.I got to view a lot of detailed scenes particularly the dark ones ( 2/3 nd. chapter in which John Travolta flies the stealth) which were very hazy in the dvd. The DTS HD 5.1 sound is also a great improvement. The bass is rock solid. If you are a fan of John woo films i would definetly recomend buying this BD.You will dump the normal dvd.
