Editorial Reviews

Broken Brights marks a departure for Stone, and not just from recording with his long-term musical co-conspirator Julia. The album, produced by Angus, is also proof that he can deftly shift between genres without compromising his signature sound. While title track "Broken Brights" is a return-to-form for Stone it's a nostalgic, dreamy tribute to our youth "Bird On the Buffalo" is a livelier composition, incorporating distorted guitar riffs, which also make an appearance in the notably rockier "It Was Blue."

5.0 out of 5 stars WELCOME SURPISE October 26, 2012

I must admit that the first time(s) through this CD I thought it was
just another boring singer-songwriter affair, after sticking with it
because of the interest of a couple of the more dramatically dark songs-The
Blue Door and It Was Blue my patience was rewarded. This CD keeps growing on me and
I find myself discovering new favorites on almost every listen. One can hear
a Neil Young influence and perhaps a Damien Jurado influence at times although
Angus' voice sounds fresh and original. Even though he breaks relatively little
new ground it is welcome to hear songs written with a new perspective and
a high degree of literate talent. I hope he continues to write with such
a degree of quality or at his young age to improve and become one of the

5.0 out of 5 stars It's just my opinion but, "OMG!" August 25, 2013
By Kelly
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I'm not a music critic but I am a music lover and I absolutely love Angus Stone and everything he's done.

I have everything he and Julia have done with the exception of "By the Horns" by Julia (that is next on my list of music to get) and I keep thinking that he (they) can't top what I'm listening to and then they (he) do it.

This album really just blows me totally away, and while I may be easily amused, I didn't think it would happen again. Angus is brilliant and he keeps on amazing me and making my life better and that is worth me reviewing this.

I'm not a good reviewer but I can't stay quiet when I feel so strongly about such a brilliant piece of work as this album is.

You absolutely cannot go wrong buying this album, so hurry up and hit the purchase button! You will be so happy you did. I am!

Everything is great about this album! I bought it not knowing who these people are, but I'm glad I did. I cannot stop listening to them, they're great!

Overall, I do recommend for those who love this type of music, and to those who are just looking for something new to listen to. It will not disappoint you. We need more music like this, ok.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music! May 26, 2014

These songs are a breath of fresh air. Nothing flashy about them, all the songs are smooth with soft romantic vocables. I can't get enough!

Really fine album. I hear many great influences and likenesses but in the end he's done a great job at being himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Young man with an old soul November 29, 2013
By Tim DD

This album could very well be a Neil Young album, circa 1971. I had never heard of Angus Stone before and only gave it a listen because it was in the $5 section and the cover looked interesting. I am very glad I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angus Stone is delightful May 12, 2013

Very nice album, viewed him on You Tube, great singer. Big Jet Plane video is great. He displays his passion in each song he sings. He spins you into bliss with his voice and his beautiful innocence. His sister is a beautiful talented performer as well. Great song writers & artist. Its a joy, so refreshing after years of waiting for a new voice, a new talent to surface.Thank you Agnus & Julia. Thank you,
