3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to get through....
I found this book difficult to get through. It was somewhat boring with little suspense and not very scary. The ending was a bit obvious ( you'll see why if you read it) and not much happened. Most of the excitement was at the beginning and then it slowed down to the end. By the end, I had to force myself to read the last few pages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Broken Date, February 28, 2008
Jamie's boyfriend Tom stands her up for a date, and she starts getting suspicious and paranoid as to why. Her best friend Ann-Marie tells her that there is probably a logical explanation as to why he stood her up.

Jamie then witnesses a jewelry store robbery, which doesn't help her already paranoid state.

At the end of the book, we find out if Tom is good or bad, and if he really had a logical reason or not for standing her up. But until then, Jamie is really "losing it" because of her suspicions. I can't say more, because I do not want to ruin it.

One star is missing because I felt the plot of this book was weaker than I liked. I do not compare books to books, because that would be unfair (judging on a sliding scale); I only judge on the one big 1-5 scale. On that scale, I felt this book did not quite rise to the 5-star level. I am an adult, and I do take into consideration that a teen book will be a little less complicated (which is good, because sometimes we adults need simpler, fun books); even with that consideration, I felt 4 stars were fair.

It was the worst R.L.Stine book I have ever read. It could have been better. Hardly any guessing. You know who the killer already is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Darcus @ Starcrossed, October 12, 2011
I am such a huge R.L. Stine fan. This is one of the few books I own that he has written. I wish I owned every single one!

This book was really good. A nice thriller for teens. it makes you feel horrible for Jamie because of all she has to deal with. How would you feel if you were under the impression that your boyfriend for x amount of years had murdered someone and was coming after you?

I love R.L. Stine books because they always have a crazy twist at the end that, nine times out of ten, you didn't see coming.

Broken Date definitely did not disappoint.

4.0 out of 5 stars broken date, April 25, 2008
The book "Broken Date" is such a great book. It has two main characters, Tom and Jamie they have been going out since junior high and they are planning to go to college together and later get married. Everything is fine until tom breaks a date. Anna her friend invites her to the mall. Jamie goes in a jewelry store called "Diamond Ranch" Jamie saw a man being pointed at with a gun and the guy holding the gun was tom. I really recommend this book because it is such a high-quality book. This book will be good for people that love reading stories. I liked it because it is a scary story and I love reading scary stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Broken Date By Delkisia, December 18, 2006
A Kid's Review
Jamie and Tom have been together for a long time. But Jamie's heart gets broken when Tom doesn't show up for a date. Jamie calls and calls but he never picksup,so she called her best friend Ann-Marie. Then Ann-Marie said how about we go to the mall to relax your mind. And Jamie said OK.
When they got to the mall Ann-Marie saw some pink Reeboks for half off. Jamie didn't like the color of the shoes,so she told Ann-Marie that she would be in the Record store. But instead of going in the Record store she went into the jewelry store to buy her mom a gift.
As she entered the store it was empty,so she walked further into the store. There she saw the manager getting robbed.she started to make a run to get out of there, but if she ran the robber might see her.She decides to hide behind the counter.
When she takes a look at the back of the robber's head she notices that his hair is sparkly-white like Tom's.
Could that be Tom? Could that be the reason why he didn't show up? Could that be the reason he didn't answer the phone? READ THIS BOOK THEN YOU'LL FIND OUT!

A Kid's Review
I personally think that Broken Date is a story that's mysterious and interesting at the same time. But does Jamie's boyfriend really want to kill her? Or is it just a BIG mistake? It really captures a reader when they read one of Stine's books. How do you do it Stine? How does it get so interesting? Your stories sounds so easy to come up with, but I think it still kind of hard. Is it Stine? I read alot of your books and they amaze me so much with the twisting endings! It's so unknowable to guess the ending. Stine your books are amazing!
