STUNNNING-ONE OF HER BEST!, July 14, 2004
This review is from: Broken: Healing the Heart (Audio CD)
For those of you who have never heard of Cynthia Clawson......she is best known for her work in the Contemporary Christian musical genre. But this is a voice and a talent that transcends categorization. Not that this is entirely accurate....but I've always called her the "Streisand of Christian Music" just to give Cynthia-newbies a tiny idea of the depth of talent they're about to experience! A Grammy and multiple Dove award winner, Cynthia Clawson has recorded many, many albums....a number of which are available on c.d.
"Broken: Healing the Heart" is quite possibly her finest project ever (with the exception of the absolutely perfect "Hymnsinger" and honorable mention to my sentimental favorite "The Way I Feel"). All the songs here are centered around the theme of healing for those who have experienced brokenness in it's many forms. This alone makes it a heartfelt gift for many, many people in each of our lives.
Some of the songs that fans have been hearing in concert for years FINALLY made their appearance on this c.d. and thankfully so.
Some of the highlights (in my opinion <G>): I'll always be thankful for Cynthia sharing her heart and life and memories of her Mother on the breathtaking opening track "My Mother's Faith", her rendition of Sting's "Fragile" is absolutely haunting; "Seasons of the Soul" has been a Cynthia-classic for years with some of the best lyrics of her entire career; "Beautiful Are The Scars"-hard to describe this one since it may well be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...anywhere....it would have been wonderful to have heard this one as the closing credits rolled on Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ"; "Jesus Wept"-Could there be a more poetically beautiful marriage of music and lyrics? Also one of the best songs of her career!
Anyway....you can tell that I'm rather passionate about this c.d.! Clawson's voice weaves in and out of these intricately woven songs as if it were also a musical instrument. And the addition of the many instruments played by Bruce Greer (the accordion is one of my favorites) just adds even more musical color to this extraordinary project. To say that the "Broken" c.d. is "ear candy" is a VAST understatement. Once you've heard this lady sing, you'll be anxious for more! She's simply the best. (And once you've fallen in love with the c.d.....then move on to the companion VHS VIDEO that features Cynthia in concert singing each and every one of these jewels!)

Simply beautiful, January 5, 2004
This review is from: Broken: Healing the Heart (Audio CD)
Ms. Clawson's voice ranges 4 octaves, and all the notes are clear, steady, and deep. When this CD was recorded, she had taken off from her established singing career to help her father care for her terminally-ill mother. The music chosen expresses her steady faith in God and questions of God raised by that experience. I first heard Ms. Clawson sing this past December and wish I had the money to buy all her CD's at one time. Anyone with questions may email me at romeoson@aol.com.
