Book Description

September 2000
The man had killed ten women across Virginia and Tennessee and was electrocuted for his crimes back in the late fifties. But he had left a cryptic message scratched on his death cell wall for his captor, detective Joe O'Riley, whose young wife had been the criminal's final victim. Now, decades later, another string of murders are working their way across the same two states, taking place in the very same old movie theaters. Expertly applied makeup leaves each victim resembling a different screen star from the fifties era. This evolving trail of death both horrifies and intrigues the now-retired Memphis Chief of Police O'Riley. His investigative fire is rekindled just as his love life returns-dormant since the death of his wife those many years ago. The striking similarity of the crimes, along with clues left at the crime scenes, baffle the police, the medical examiner, and O'Riley. Could this be a copycat? Or is the perpetrator's identity more sinister? A cat-and-mouse game between police and killer quickly escalates as the murders continue and once again, the love of O'Riley's life is planted firmly in the killer's path.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise, November 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Broken Hearts: A Novel of Suspense (Hardcover)
I picked up this book because Levy went to U.Va and set part of the book in Charlottesville. What a pleasant surprise to find a book filled not only with atmosphere of the present and the 50's but with really interesting characters. The premise of an executed serial killer inhabiting ..... well I won't give it away, but the book is impossible to put down, like a roller coaster you know where it is ultimately headed but you are enjoying the ride so much....

5.0 out of 5 stars The true story behind movies and books...., October 7, 2000
This review is from: Broken Hearts: A Novel of Suspense (Hardcover)
When you first pick up Bob Levy's new book, you may easily choose to put it back down due to its shiny pulp fiction like cover. However, the bloody bold yellow letters and old movie theater only set the stage for a nail-biting search for a serial killer in Elvis land. I actually work in the bookstore in the old movie theater that Levy mentions in Chapter 31. All of our employees have heard the "urban legends" that someone was once murdered upstairs in "the crying room." Levy gives great fictious flare to the stories we have all heard and keeps us wondering if they are actually true! He even decribes our store perfectly! For those of you who enjoy a great mystery or thriller, you will definitely enjoy the story Bob Levy plots! For those of us working at the bookstore, we hold our breath and check behind closed doors!!

Bob Levy really put it together with Broken Hearts. I started the book on an overnight business trip. By the time I got back home the book was finished and I was on Amazon looking for another book by Mr. Levy.
