Book Description

Drake Pearson, a narrow-minded 18-year-old barely enduring Missouri’s heat, is tired of feeling empty. Living conditions are about as cozy as a cardboard box, on account of his alcoholic father who can find nothing better to do than argue relentlessly with him. When Drake thinks he can’t take another blow, he is reminded daily of his mom who vanished twelve years ago. And now there’s a dead body. After a terrible accident turns into a protected secret, a twisted string of events brings Drake miles away from home to an elderly man’s front door. Every promising opportunity also brings new doubts and temptations to run away—this time for good. When the secret he has kept locked away threatens to reveal itself, Drake knows he must shield it with his very life, even if the love he has been shown undeservingly is about to be destroyed.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little over the top for me. June 16, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It was a pretty good read but I did find myself skipping chunks of it. I am a strong Christian but the religion in this book was SO long and drawn out (just for me). I wanted it to "give the message" and then move along but it didnt do that. It just went on and on and on page after page. Also, what the teenage boy was thinking was repeated over and over and over. A lot of redundancy.

For a young writer it wasnt bad at all. I dont know if a nonbeliever would be able to stick with this book though. So the extra long message about Jesus may (?) be in vain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare the Way of the Lord November 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
You would never know Ashley Williams is a promising young writer. She already knows her craft well and paints a powerful picture of a family planted and rooted by the moving of the Living Spirit of God across their lives. If you are a believer already or searching, you need to read this novel and pass it on. This would be a great gift for Christmas, a birthday, or for anyone who seems beyond hearing the gentle knock on the door to their heart, someone who would run from entering the church. That same someone is found in Drake Pearson, the heart-broken young man in Broken Identity who finds his family and his destiny. This book will move to tears the hardest-hearted, abused, and rejected person. Ashley's book is crying out in the wilderness, preparing the way for readers to give their hearts and lives to the Lord. Buy it. Read it. Pass it on.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story about 3 People November 28, 2011
Format:Paperback
The author does a great job of telling a dramatic story of redemption. She tells a tale of two broken individuals and a third who isn't broken so much as he is incomplete. You can pick up the plotlines elsewhere--I don't want to give anything away. But I will say I found this book hard to put down. There was enough drama to keep it interesting without it being melodramatic. The author's characters faced some tough questions, and their responses weren't pat or easy. It'd be intersting to read another story about these characters. This would be a great book for teens, but not just for them. I enjoyed it, and I'm in my 40s. This was an outstanding offering from a young author with a very bright future.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Was Captivated May 15, 2012
Format:Paperback
I was hooked by this story from the start. Ashley is just starting in her journalism career and she already writes like a pro. I can't wait to see what she comes out with next. The characters tugged on my heart and I really cared what happend. I agonized watching them make bad decisions. I won't give the ending away but it's quite a wonderful suprise! Ashley, if you're not at your keyboard now, you need to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love It June 30, 2013
By traeand
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Got this because it was free or very inexpensive. Have never read anything by this author before but I really like this book. Actually am about 95% through with it so have to get back to see what happens. People need others to find the good in them if they have been told they are worthless all their lives. Wouldn't it be great to help more people like that if we could be in tune with the Lord's leading.

4.0 out of 5 stars How child abuse can affect life June 10, 2013
By BarbA
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Drake and Ronnie are both victims of abuse at the hands of angry fathers. This is a story of how that can affect young lives. An elderly man who is an uncle to one of the boys is also a Christian, and his love and influence on both boys makes a difference in the life of each of them. A heart warming and inspirational story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unmerited Favor, Release from Guilt October 29, 2011
Format:Paperback
Ashley Williams has brilliantly incorporated the basic elements of story in this heart wrenching novel. "Broken Identity" is Drake Pearson's story which portrays the anger of youth, the devastation of alcohol addiction, the hopelessness of poverty, the horrors of child abuse and abandonment.

Drake Pearson desperately seeks to escape from his past, from the horrible secret of his immediate circumstances, as well as the offer of love and acceptance from caring Christians.

I quickly became engaged in the character driven plot which includes deception and lies, robbery and assault, kidnapping, and murder. In a parallel story Williams builds on the innocence of young children, the bonding of family love, and the message of God's unmerited grace.

Ashley Williams is a young writer with the promise of a remarkable career as an author. She writes with genuine conviction and a deep understanding of human nature. Her strong dialog draws the reader into the emotions of her characters, their frustrations, heartaches, and needs. She carefully weaves into the story a positive message of the Gospel, of Christ's crucifixion, and his sacrifice for man's salvation.

"Broken identity" offers hope to those seeking answers to life's meaning and encouragement to Christian's faithful in intercessory prayer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dragged On July 1, 2013
By Dart17
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I lost interest in the character and the book. It seem to just drag on. It may be true that some people have a hard time letting go of the past and accepting something better for their future, but the main character's story was a bit boring.

I did not enjoy this book at all. Could not wait to complete the book. Far too much religion and not enough action. The diction was also rather poor.
