5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Classic
Mark and the Truck crew have created an incredibly smooth sounding record that you can't help but listen to again and again. Like Johnny at Folsom, like Willie anywhere , this is an instant classic and as a bonus you actually get Willie and Mark together on this album, as well as Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, Rob Thomas , Jakob Dylan and more.....good stuff, pick it up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rusty Truck is anything but rusty.
Great cd. Imus in the morning recommended highly and the I-man was not wrong. One of the best cd's I've owned in years. I listen to a lot of Buffett, James Taylor, Delbert McClinton, and this cd places high in these ranks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Masterpiece, June 21, 2005
This review is from: Broken Promises (Audio CD)
You're in the local Cd store....you see this in the "R" section and completely ignore it cause you never heard of Rusty Truck.

Big mistake....this is one great cd of country inflected rock, with great cameos and duets with Willie, Sheryl Crow, Jakob Dylan, Gillian Welch and a rather refreshing appearence by Lenny Kravitz....plus Rob Thomas, T- Bone Burnett and Kenny Wayne Shepherd all make contributions.

If you dismissed this cd, you'd be missing one of the better cd's of 2003 or any year for that matter. Once in your player you'll find this to be one of favorite cd's....it'll stay in your rotation...and friends will envy your good taste and your ability to find a tasty gem.

Everytime, Candy, Malibu Canyon, Civil Wars and TKO are favorites right now...but it changes because this is such a well crafted cd...I like the rockers one day, country tinged ones the next.... basically I like the whole dang thing.

I hope this isn't a one shot, either...and there's more to come from Mark Seliger. Oh, and its quite apparent that Don Imus can sell cd's...

5.0 out of 5 stars Rusty, but not broken down, December 29, 2003
This review is from: Broken Promises (Audio CD)
Mark Seliger enlisted of some of rock and alt.country's best and brightest singer/songwriters to contribute to Broken Promises. There are some gems here, the shiniest being "Cold Ground," featuring Sheryl Crow. With Seliger, Crow manages brilliant harmony, evoking a Fleetwood Mac-ish sound. This album is one of my favorites of 2003.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing CD!, February 3, 2006
This review is from: Broken Promises (Audio CD)
Wow - I rarely get excited over a purchase, but this is one of the best CDs ever. Thanks to Imus for putting it on the air! I'm not sure if the music is bluesy country or country blues, but it's brilliant. Definitely worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars I could not believe it., March 19, 2006

I purchased this recording on a whim. I was listening to Don Imus one morning, and he was raving this album and saying it was one of the best things he owns and he just plays it over and over. Then he threw the frosting on the cake by saying that the album was a one of a kind and the likes of the musicians probably would not ever get together again. Then he played the title track and I was piqued. He had my interest and it sounded like a great way to invest a few bucks; besides both I - Man and I think pretty highly of Delbert McClinton so I figured he might be right. It has not been out of the player whether at home or in my rusty truck. Don't let it get under your skin. Also the my wife is rather fond of it and that's a plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Musical Surprise/Heard on IITM, February 2, 2006

I heard "never going back" and "a thousand kisses" on Imus in the Morning in early January, and after a few days of hearing the songs ... i HAD to have the cd. It did not disappoint. Shades of country/70s radio and other influences I cannot put my finger on. "Broken Promises" is gorgeous, and what a surprise to have Lenny Kravitz on that one. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, two of my faves, lend a touch of dustbowl on "loves changing lanes" and "tangled in the fence"...and Jakob Dylan's rasp is a ear satisfying complement to Seliger's voice in "never going back." Of course, the master, Willie Nelson, does his magical thing on "A thousand kisses" and it's happy/sad/classic stuff.

I know music isn't Mark Seliger's main gig, but I hope to hear more from him in the future...this stuff is better than 90% of what's on country and rock radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still playing...., January 8, 2006

I bought this disc over 2 years ago and still find its genius amazing. The most disappointing thing about this album is that there is no real 'band' or group to produce another. It's a one- off. 'Broken Promises' and 'Candy' could have been hits for any Country or Rock band that chose it, they're just that good. Each song brings its own personality and mood to your ears and you'll find that just as you begin to put it on the shelf for a while, you find another gem commanding your attention. I can only compare this album to Old 98's 'Fight Songs' because of it's singular distinctness and flavor. There just ins't anyone out there doing this anymore. I need more Rusty Truck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rusty Truck is an All Time Classic, February 2, 2006
This review is from: Broken Promises (Audio CD)
THis album is incredible. Categorize it however you want: country, alt-country, rock, alternative, classic rock, old-school country. It doesn't matter because it transcends those types of limits. It is one of the most solid albums, first song to the last song, that I've ever heard. Broken Promises and Never Going Back pull you in; the rest of the songs keep you there. I bought it two days ago and the CD has not left my car stereo since. I've played it all at least 5 times so far. This one is timeless. Do n't hesitate in buying because you won't always be able to find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth Music and great singing, January 24, 2006
This review is from: Broken Promises (Audio CD)
The music is so crisp and clear and well done that it enhances the vocals tremendously. Kravits produced alot on this and I had no idea he had that talent. Only one cut "Candy" from this CD is weak. Even with the diffuculty of harmony with Willie Nelson on "1000 Kisses" it comes across OK. "Lucks Changing Lanes" stands out with great lyrics and pace. "Broken Promises" carries its own strength and is a hit. Loved the CD.

I heard Rusty Truck on Imus and quickly bought the CD. It did not disappoint -- clever lyrics, catchy tunes, and excellent musicianship.
