Book Description

November 1, 2000
The author of this exciting book of thought provoking essays uses nautical concepts to reflect and examine ordinary experiences of life and their potential for enhancing or diminishing the human spirit. In a highly creative, powerful, stimulating but informal style, the author takes you on a personal excursion on a sailboat called life.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Essays are deep and provocative to be read over and over, getting something different, and something more to think about. -- Gloria Walker, Chicago, Illinois

The author weaves travel experiences into a growing realization of self, connecting this knowledge to a deeper understanding of people. -- Elizabeth Wilkins, Professor of Humanities, Richard J . Daley College

The essay probing a particular type of human, the deep personality is fantastic, a short deep penetrating dip of brilliance. -- Dr. Nancy L. Arnez, Professor Emeritus, Howard University

From the Author

On the dawn of an early spring morning, I was in my bed in a dreamlike state. It was peaceful. My mind was free of the vagrancies of thoughts or dreams. Suddenly, the serenity of the moment was interrupted. A voice was speaking to me saying, "You are being carried from a broken wing to a sailboat." Simple words, but the meaning was elusive yet I knew that they were significant. This book of essays is a beginning of my personal exploration to bring meaning to these words.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Felt Like Flying, July 22, 2001
This review is from: From a Broken Wing to a Sailboat (Paperback)
The title had me captivated. The chapters were intelligent and thought provoking. The content was memorable. "I have never thought of that before" was a reoccuring thought the whole time I was transfixed with this book. Clara Holton is an author I had never even heard of up until this point, but she is definitely now one I will never forget. Her thoughts are so poetic and true. I was amazed, saddened, and rejoiceful all at the same time. Wonderful book and I recommend it to everyone who has eyes to read. I give this book a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars unique style, July 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: From a Broken Wing to a Sailboat (Paperback)
Author seems to be able to capture many of life's events whether they are planned or unplanned, disastrous or expectedly successful and effortlessly turn them into lesons by which all of us can profit from. I was captured by a planned vacation that was met with mild disaster with the alternative choice becoming more profitable than the planned initial choice. Few words allows one to read between the lines and usually reaching he same conclusions as does the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Stimulating Read, July 12, 2001

Tamara (Anchorage, AK USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From a Broken Wing to a Sailboat (Paperback)
From the very first chapter of this beautfully written masterpiece, I was mezmerized. Ms. Holton has such a way with words that at one minute I was hurting, and the next I was rejoicing. "I never thought of that before" was a thought I had at least 15 to 20 times reading this book. Anyone who wants an intelligent, thought-provoking time consumer should seriously consider picking this one up. It's definitely worth it.

GOD BLESS,

Tamara
