5.0 out of 5 stars this...., December 2, 2001

This review is from: Broken Star (Audio CD)
...is easily one of the most inspirational, powerful, and intelligent albums ever recorded. this album has helped me through depression. the words are so painstakingly true and at the same time optimistic. 'the nautical mile' almost made me cry the first time i heard it. aside from the lyrics, the broadways played the best structered punk i've ever heard, with a slight emo touch to it. chris, brendan, and dan's voices may not be perfect, but work perfectly together. i wish they could've stayed around longer and left more than this and 'broken van.' if you do not own this album, i suggest you stop whatever you doing and order it now.

Brilliant album.
One of the only socio-political punk bands with brains.

Fans of Leftover Crack, Anti-Flag need not listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums ever (in any genre), June 30, 2004

Few albums have the ability to make people feel. Sure some of those emo albums appeal to depressed High Schoolers, but just doesn't seem to hit on the same level as Broken Star. This is one of the only albums to ever put a tear in my eye (and I didn't even feel that depressed). There is so much true emotion in this that you can't even call it emo or whatever, they don't even put the message first, it rocks as well. I remeber the first time I heard Red Line, it was just such a great song and I have felt that way to the T at times. This album appeals to everyone all areas of life are covered on this from love to politics to just living life and finding meaning. Then there is the music, it just seems to be sown into the singing and the meaning (rhymes, yes I am that good). The structure of each song is just so accomadating to the lyrics and the intontation. There are so many things in this album that just makes me feel, you know actually feel what they are saying. How did they have the ability to get me to hear them out? I could always care less about what a band has to say, I just care about them rocking me. I never really searched for a band that would mean something beyond the music, beyond the sound. I have learned a lot from this cd, I have seen things diffrent and I have learned a lot. Though it's ashamed that the bands to come from this just aren't up to snuff, it is good enough that they put this amazing album out. I've never ever heard a more passionate album ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Broadways., January 23, 2004

What can I say about this amazing group? It's all been said. So I'll just tell you that CD gets right down to buisiness from track 1 and doesn't stop until the end. It is an absolute amazing adventure of an album. Punk that is intelligent, has a cause, and sings about stuff that actually matters. No play acting anarchists here, no these guys are real punks, and they have something to say. This is a CD that every punk and human being for that matter should have, so what are you waiting for? BUY IT!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars songs that you can trust, May 2, 2003

The Broadways sing about what matters. The words are so true, and honest they pierce you. Its one of the only bands I've ever heard that I could look out my front door and relate what I'm seeing to what someone is singing about. Most of the songs are sad, but the sadness and pain only make it more beautiful. This CD is a gem for those who have a functioning brain stem....

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best album ever recorded, February 8, 2003
By
Herbert G. Fields (Humboldt, Califorina) - See all my reviews

OK, so i've had this album for 4 years and i still listen to it all the time. This is just some amazing, inteligent, inspired stuff. The lyrics are straight forward and at the same time poetic. The music is very catchy but not poppy or "happy" music of anysort. This album kicks [tail]. if you like the lawrence arms or slapstick you will probably love this record. Best songs by far are:I hear things are just as bad down by lake Erie, All I ever needed to know.., The Nautical Mile, and The pope of Chilli town. thatnk you and good night.

The Broadways are easily said the best band that i have ever heard. There meaningful lyrics and strong melodic music combined shows how good they really are. I have both broken van and broken star and I listen to it everyday and i have listened to it for a year now i have never gotten sick of it. If you like good music then i suggest that you purchase all the Broadways albums. You wont regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars inspiration, June 28, 2001
This review is from: Broken Star (Audio CD)
As inspirational as Operation Ivy and Minor Threat, this is one of the best CD's I own. Every song on here is good, and even though their style is very solid and engrained which creates an atmosphere of repeative sound, they never delve into catchy chorus. Simply buy it, Broadways came, they conquered, listen to their bible.
