Book Description

January 2, 2008
Internationally acclaimed novelist Jerry Marcus takes the killing of basketball great Jack Molinas to create a murder mystery that combines religion, politics, sports and gambling. According to Marcus, Jack's story epitomizes a hypocrisy seen not only in sports, but throughout society. Some sportswriters and columnists vilified Jack on the same newspaper pages that also carried the point spreads and gambling odds on college and professional games. In BROKEN TRUST, Marcus uses his knowledge of basketball and insights into human behavior, and the tragic and complex figure of Jack Molinas, to illustrate how powerful business interests, religious hypocrites, and attorneys hide behind a facade of morality and justice.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Besides writing a gripping tale of a powerful, rich, highly competitive industry, Marcus delivers a high-impact, no holds barred, picture of modern social establishments - both religious and secular - so corrupt and self-serving, amidst their public pious and self-righteous pretense and hypocrisy. --Rabbi Yaakov Fogelman, Torah Outreach Program, Jerusalem, Israel

Great Book... --Sam Amico, Editor and Senior Writer, ProBasketballNews.com

More About the Author

JERRY MARCUS is internationally acclaimed for his ability to create compelling fiction about thought-provoking issues such as anti-Semitism, political intrigue, and religious hypocrisy. His focus is always to use his diverse background for the purpose of raising questions and stimulating thought. Born in Israel of American parents, Marcus was raised in New York.

For several years, Marcus worked as an account executive for a Washington public relations firm, where he wrote position papers, conducted surveys and organized the campaigns of several major political candidates. When writing on thought-provoking issues became Marcus' passion, he moved to Chicago where he wrote all night, supporting himself by working a succession of odd jobs - including loading trucks, sales, waiting tables, and working behind the counter at the well-known Mort's Delicatessen. His hard work resulted in Marcus' highly acclaimed first novel - ABRAHAM, ISAAC, JACOB & ZEV - which was recommended by the American Jewish Congress in 1982, and adopted in 1995 as required text for a humanities course at the State University System of Florida. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob & Zev was also selected by The New York Public Library for inclusion in its essential research collection.
Marcus' second novel, THE SALVATION PEDDLER earned him the title of "Master of Suspense." THE LAST POPE continued Marcus' talent for turning out thrilling, religious-based fiction.

BROKEN TRUST - THE MURDER OF BASKETBALL STAR JACK MOLINAS illustrates once again Marcus' talent for taking readers on a compelling and unforgettable journey. In BROKEN TRUST, Marcus explores the killing of basketball great Jack Molinas - and creates a murder mystery that combines religion, politics, sports and gambling.

He has just completed his fifth novel, which will be published in 2010.
