5.0 out of 5 stars Passion to the max, June 30, 2004
By
M. C Wright "It Is He!" (Indianapolis, IN USofA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Broken Van (Audio CD)
This album is insanely good. I have no idea how to explain it, but ever since I got this album I haven't found a more passionate and truthful album. Though Broken Star is admittedly better, I am partial to this one being my first Broadways album. I am sadden that not too many people know who this group is and I am sure that if they did they would like them just as much as I do. They don't get too preachy and they know what they are talking about (unlike... well you know who). This is one of the few times that politically centered music actually hits you in the way that you just feel it. Usually when I hear a political song (like one by Boy Sets Fire or even NOFX) I roll my eyes and try to enjoy the music and eschew the message (except in the case of Boy Sets Fire, none of that is enjoyable). But here the message is just equally inticing and just bleeds of passion. I know that they mean every word that they say, that they aren't just trying to preach to the unconverted, they are saying what's on their mind and how they feel about it. Many bands preach and preach not for personal reasons, but it seems for more didatic reason which annoys me to no end. I don't need to be taught a lesson, I want to hear your views becuase that's what you feel and that's what you want to give to us, a piece of your mind. Unfortunatly too many bands think they have a purpose in being political, that is all they can do is give us garbage about how bad it is here in the states or how bad off things are in the world. Bands give that sort of reasoning on politics or issues without emotion or any sort of voiced conviction and even if they did it sounds so forced that it makes me laugh. This is an exception, the music is good and it is powerful. This makes you feel, you don't have to roll your eyes or listen to the music for once you actually feel what the singer is yelling and singing about and I love that. This is powerful music my friends and I never use that term lightly.

5.0 out of 5 stars just about brilliant, June 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Broken Van (Audio CD)
its no "broken star," but its not supposed to be. the songs "rainy day" (which originally appeared on the "we all know thay you can do it" ep), and "this routine" (which originally appeared as the hidden track on the "big city" cdep) are absolutely brilliant. i miss these guys, the lawrence arms just don't measure up.

4.0 out of 5 stars pure energy and transition, May 20, 2001
This review is from: Broken Van (Audio CD)
Though i heard this album after Broken Star and am therefore much less impressed than i would have been otherwise, but this project is still one of the most inspirational and energetic punk CD's i have (and i have over 100). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Highlights include Not Necessarily the News, It was Pancho Villa, Rainy Day, What Happened, Dropjaw and This Routine.
