5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Romance Story! May 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this book! Broken Wings is a wonderful, emotional story about a woman, Angelina, who meets a British solider, Joshua, and despite the fact that he's about to go back on duty overseas, they fall head-over-heels in love. However, when Joshua discovers he's being sent to Afghanistan as a bomb disposal expert, all Angelina can do is hope that he comes home safe.

This story had all the elements of a great romance: lots of passion, heartache and tension. In addition, the author dealt extremely well with the loss and difficulties that come with war, both those going to war and those left behind. I especially liked the love letters that were written by the hero and heroine while he was away on duty.

If you're looking for a great romance story, I would highly recommend Broken Wings!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Romance April 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Broken Wings is a sweet story about a young woman struggling to heal after a dreadful loss who meets British bomb disposal expert Joshua, also dealing with terrible trauma from wartime events. Both characters have closed themselves off from relationships and life, and are trying to heal when they happen to meet. That's when the sparks fly!

The telling of their mutual need and affection is quite endearing. I enjoyed the themes of friendship, healing, love, and the strength with with Angelina dealt with her past and present losses.

Also quite intriguing was the story when told from Joshua's POV. His wartime experiences seemed authentic, such that I suspect this author may have a good source for the material.

If you're looking for a romance with a dramatic twist, try this.

A nice story for YA or adult romance fans, a fast read.

Broken Wings is a poignant love story that has been relived over and over again by many couples struggling to maintain a balance between love and sanity, as the result of the war in Afghanistan. This story will touch your heart like no other, as Torrens weaves a passionate tale reminiscent of the great love stories of the past, where a love affair is threatened by the atrocities of war.

5.0 out of 5 stars Broken wings June 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Broken wings was an excellence, well written story. The story pulled at your heart strings, making you sad and happy while praying that they would both find the love and peace they were searching for. I loved the book. Cannot wait to read the next one written by dawn torrents. She makes you identify with the characters and bring more understanding of what this war is all about. How it affects the people involved. Good job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Chance at Love!! July 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
For anyone looking for an easy-to-read and hard to put down romance novel then "Broken Wings" fits the bill. Talented Author D.G. Torrens captivates her reading audience with a love story based on a fictional romance with a lot of heart wrenching facts about the perils of war thrown in to make the story line more credible.

Angelina, an editor for a local newspaper as well as an aspiring writer, decides she will never fall in love again. With a sad family background, she moves to a small town to escape the reality of that situation and later falls in love and becomes engaged to Daniel. Unfortunately, they are in a car accident involving drinking and driving and Daniel doesn't survive. Angelina spirals into despair and with the help of her wonderful friend Lucy, she eventually manages to get back on her feet.

Joshua is a British Bomb Expert who has seen his fair share of war, injury, and untimely deaths. After losing one of his closest friends to the ravages of warfare...and also constantly witnessing the devastating effects on loved ones due to loss or injury, he too, decides to avoid falling in love until his tour of duty is over. He is presently enjoying two weeks leave from his dangerous job of defusing bombs.

When Angelina's car breaks down by the side of the road, Joshua offers her a lift home which she eagerly accepts. This chance meeting leads into another one when their paths cross again at a social event. It is basically love at first sight and against what either of them initially wanted, they cannot deny these wonderful feelings. Joshua is soon to be deployed to a peace keeping mission in Sierra Leone for twelve weeks. Joshua and Angelina exchange love letters and their relationship flourishes across the miles.

4.0 out of 5 stars I could relate August 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My husband is in the US Army, so I could somewhat relate to how Angelina felt while Joshua was gone, and when he was missing. It was a really good book, until the very end. I would have liked for the story to continue a little more, or at least lead into a 2nd book. I'm glad Joshua accepted that Angelina came to see him and didn't push her away. I just didn't care how it abruptly ended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Depressing, didn't like at all September 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't know why I bothered to read this book. It is so depressing. It is another war book that is a downer. We have a couple who meet fall in love. He goes off to war and is badly injured. He loses part of a leg. Won't see her. She sneaks into the hospital anyway. And it ends with in just a couple of pages. We readers are suppose to feel good that somehow they will live happy ever after? I kept on reading hoping it would somehow become less depressing. That didn't happen. I gave this book 2 stars. Maybe I should have given it only one star.
