This is truly a squirrel proof feeder. I have two of these. Only complaint is that the spring mechanism broke on one of them while cleaning and it's toast. Just treat it gently when cleaning. I am getting another one since it's the only feeder I have seen that keeps squirrels off. As for the critters swinging the feeder around to disperse seeds, this is a very small "squirrel tax" to pay. Put some seed on the ground for our bushy tailed friends and be thankful they are not ON the feeder.

Doesn't Work,

I have a problem with red squirrels and chipmunks. It keeps the fatter squirrel off the feeder, but the skinnier two just snake their hands in and snatch out the seeds. It doesn't stop the chipmunks at all; they're too small to trigger the weight limit. The fat squirrel sits at the bottom eating the seeds knocked down by the two smaller ones having to work so hard.
Worse, because it takes the squirrels more effort to get the seeds, they spend twice as much time working at the feeder. The seed doesn't go down as quickly but there's no chance for birds to come feed. This might work for heavier gray squirrels but it's a total bust for red squirrels and chipmunks.

No, maybe squirrels can't get inside the feeder, but they don't have to. All they have to do is shake it or set it to swinging, and seed goes all over the place. Then they take what seeds they want out of the resulting mess and leave the rest to rot. They can trash a feeder's worth of seed within a week. I'll be looking for yet another feeder as soon as I can afford it.

Great for squirrels, but not raccoons...,

I live in an area with a lot of old oak trees, so the community has a huge squirrel population. I have had problems with the little furry guys before - they can literally empty an entire feeder in an hour. I have purchased more expensive models before, but the squirrels figured out a way to hang upside down and raid the seed. This product works extremely well - it doesn't stop the squirrels from trying, but they get discouraged after awhile and jump down, leaving the seed alone.
One morning I woke up to find the shepherds hook I had the bird feeder hanging on bent to the ground and the feeder in the middle of the yard on its side. We had a windstorm during the night, so I figured it blew down. The next day I woke up to the same thing - and the feeder was completely empty. In addition to a large squirrel colony, we also have a large raccoon colony. The raccoons managed to push the pole to the ground, remove the feeder from the hook, and placed the feeder on its side, so that the levers that close off the seed when the weight of a squirrel lands on it were not operational....and proceeded to empty the contents of the feeder. I have been able to overcome this problem by greasing the pole the feeder is on....the raccoons can't get a grip on the pole to push it to the ground. Overall, this product is great for what it sets out to do... keep squirrels from hogging all the seed....just watch out for raccoons!

Not as good as the Squirrel Buster Plus....,
By To be fair, Brome never claims this model can be adjusted nor do they recommend it to keep larger birds off the feeder. So, if squirrels are your only problem, this less expensive model will indeed fit your need. If you are looking for more control over who is working your feeder, spend the extra money for the Plus model.

Defeat those pesky squirrels,
This review is from: Brome 1015 Squirrel Buster Classic (Lawn & Patio)
This product is great. Without hurting the squirrels, except mentally, it prevents them from robbing birdseed from the birds, while allowing most birds to continue feeding. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have found squirrels to be pretty clever at getting around most barriers, but this device works just as advertised. After two or three failed attempts to get seeds out of it, the squirrels have stopped trying. Surprisingly, we even get woodpeckers taking sunflower seeds from this feeder.

I finally found a bird feeder that is both squirrel 'proof' and durable meaning that it will last more than a season. I purchased two and, unlike other feeders I tried, this one withstood the assault of the most ambitious and agressive squirrels.
This is a must buy.

This feeder only works in theory. The open cups are covered by a cage that when the weight of a squirrel gets on it, covers the open cups with cage material. It does move overthe openings but all the squirrel does is shake it like a salt shaker by moving and the seed falls to ground for ez eating. I have watched one critter empty it completely in about 2 hours. The Better choice is The "Plus" version that puts a solid cover when a squirrels weight pulls it down.

I have very persistent squirrels (I sort of tamed them so what did I expect...) that would consume their own food and then rob the birdfeeders. After years of frustration and trying everything I could think of to foil them including greasing the pole (Surely, someone else has tried that. My husband thought I was nuts.)I finally sucked it up and shelled out the bucks for this one. It's wonderful and it's a joy to see the squirrels swinging on it and GETTING NOTHING!! And, the food doesn't drop out when they swing on it, either. Wish I had bought it years ago...!
