Brome 1015 Squirrel Buster Classic
Equipped with patented Squirrel Buster technology, this Brome 1015 Squirrel Buster Classic bird feeder offers an innovative design that attracts birds while keeping squirrels at bay. The bird feeder holds up to 1.4 quarts of bird seed, whether it's Black Oil sunflower seed (a good all-round birdseed) or other seed blends specific to your area.
A welcome choice for bird lovers, the squirrel-proof bird feeder attracts a wide variety of clinging and perching birds including American Gold Finches, Chickadees, Hairy Woodpeckers, Cardinals, Indigo Buntings, Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks, White-Breasted Nuthatches, and Purple Finches.
Squirrel-Proof / Chew-Proof
Openings in the wire shroud align with seed ports and provide birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing access to the seed ports. All squirrels and many large birds are blocked from accessing the seed, but are not harmed in any way.
Negative Grip Tube
Even more, the feeder includes a negative grip tube which prevents squirrels from grabbing the wire hanger with their hind legs, hanging down alongside the feeder, and defeating the closing mechanism.
Place the Feeder Almost Anywhere
Locate your feeder just about anywhere--no more worrying about those pesky squirrels. Position the feeder by your deck, in a nearby tree, or over a favorite window for those great close-up views. The bird feeder hangs easily with the use of wall brackets, branch hooks, or extension hooks.
Be sure to allow for at least 16 inches (40 cm) of clearance around the feeder. This clearance will prevent a squirrel from reaching over from a nearby foothold to access the seed without placing its weight on the feeder. Forcing the squirrel to climb all the way onto the feeder triggers the closing mechanism, preventing access.
Easy to Fill and Clean
The Squirrel Buster Classic dismantles easily for filling and cleaning. A handy maximum-seed-level indicator on the bottom of the yellow center-post cap helps prevent over-filling. To clean, wash the components of Squirrel Buster Classic with a solution of dish detergent and warm water. Rinse with a solution of white vinegar, a mild natural disinfectant. The bird feeder should be hand washed only; it is not dishwasher-safe.

One morning I woke up to find the shepherds hook I had the bird feeder hanging on bent to the ground and the feeder in the middle of the yard on its side. We had a windstorm during the night, so I figured it blew down. The next day I woke up to the same thing - and the feeder was completely empty.
In addition to a large squirrel colony, we also have a large raccoon colony. The raccoons managed to push the pole to the ground, remove the feeder from the hook, and placed the feeder on its side, so that the levers that close off the seed when the weight of a squirrel lands on it were not operational....and proceeded to empty the contents of the feeder.
I have been able to overcome this problem by greasing the pole the feeder is on....the raccoons can't get a grip on the pole to push it to the ground.
Overall, this product is great for what it sets out to do... keep squirrels from hogging all the seed....just watch out for raccoons!
To be fair, Brome never claims this model can be adjusted nor do they recommend it to keep larger birds off the feeder.
So, if squirrels are your only problem, this less expensive model will indeed fit your need. If you are looking for more control over who is working your feeder, spend the extra money for the Plus model.
On the Squirrel Buster Classic: The small perches clip on the wire cage and have a wobble which permits small bird's toes to BECOME TRAPPED between the perch and the wire mesh cage. We had an experience where a black-capped chickadee was trapped by his own weight on the perch (bleeding and pecking at the foot) and when we lifted the perch it was freed (with an obviously mangled toe). When this issue is rectified the unit will be safe for sale. Until such time I can no longer recommended it. I recommend all of these units have this issue addressed or you should remove them from your yard.

Worse, because it takes the squirrels more effort to get the seeds, they spend twice as much time working at the feeder. The seed doesn't go down as quickly but there's no chance for birds to come feed.
This might work for heavier gray squirrels but it's a total bust for red squirrels and chipmunks.

This bird feeder is true to its claim that NO squirrels can get to the food because of the weighted perches. Read morePublished 2 days ago by AH
I was skeptical about purchasing this feeder for a while, as I've always had good luck with a sock-type feeder. Read morePublished 8 days ago by twofoxes
