For Anyone Wanting to Try Something New,
By
This review is from: Bromeliads for the Contemporary Garden (Hardcover)
I really want to try to grow more bromeliads after reading this book. From Earthstars to Spanishmoss, this book cover all you would want to landscape with.
Andrew Steens did a great job of conveying his love for these plants. The descriptions, hints on where to plant and photography are all excellent. Steens explains everything from what bromelids are, their history, and the types of genera. I would have liked to see a few more how-to photos, just because it might have helped the novice gardener. This is a great book for someone into tropical gardening or houseplants.

Bromeliads for the Comtemporary Garden,
By Sandy "mermaid gardener" (Laguna) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bromeliads for the Contemporary Garden (Hardcover)
Filled with excellent color photos of plants in gardens as well as close, detail shots of fantastic bromeliads. Excellent section on care and problem solving. Good basic overview of this intriguing tropical species. Clear descriptions of plants and their needs, written for the gardener. Some images are so voluptuous they border on plant pornography; they ignite a desire to grow these tender beauties.

Bromeliads - interesting plants,

This review is from: Bromeliads for the Contemporary Garden (Hardcover)
This is a gorgeous book. Even if you're not into tropical plants and master gardening, it is a wonderful book to just look through. As in "coffetable" book. But it is very definitive - as far as thousands of genus can be. It goes into the history of bromeliads and how they are constantly being hybred. I purchased this book for a friend who has a nice collection of the plants and needed to identify some of them. I was very reluctant to let it go and am thinking of buying one for myself.

This book has great photos to help identify many of the most commonly kept bromeliads. Mr. Steens also provides a thorough discussion of cultivation and propagation. I recommend this book.

Bromeliads for the Contemporary Garden,

This review is from: Bromeliads for the Contemporary Garden (Hardcover)
This is an awesome book packed full of information. Both novice and expert bromeliad gardeners can appreciate this book. This book has the most commonly cultivated bromeliads, although some aren't so common in the US yet. My favorite part of the book is the lists of bromeliads for colder climates. I go back to the lists quite often, since there isn't much info on cold hardy bromeliads to be found. This book also provides lists of bromeliads for shady to sunny gardens, which is also very useful. Tons of amazing pictures, which provides a lot of inspiration. Definitely a good book to have.

Its a good book for folks who want to plant bromeliads in their garden. It has an Australian slant to it, but the information can be used world-wide. Worth the read.

Wonderful book if you know Latin!,

This review is from: Bromeliads for the Contemporary Garden (Hardcover)
This is a great book for people who want to grow bromeliads at home. It has lots of information and lots of good photos. The only drawback is that the index is by Latin names and if you don't know the correct name you have to flip through the whole book and hope you find a photo.
