works fine, but measure twice and get the elongated one instead, June 19, 2011

3.5 star
I've used several of these kinds of "electronic toilets" in Japan, and they are really great. This one performs pretty well. At first I thought the nozzles didn't go far enough, but actually it depends how you sit on the seat. Also I tried a Toto S300 and it had about the same range.
A few people have said of the Toto S300 that the dryer isn't strong enough to really dry you. Frankly the dryer gives off decent heat already--it'd be dangerous if it went any hotter. Think about it. In any case it does warm you, which is good, but it's not going to make you totally dry.
Installation was easy for me. I have limited plumbing experience, but the instructions were good. Our place is relatively new, so that might have helped; if you have ancient plumbing it could be tougher?
I'm having one problem with this product, and it has to do with the dimensions of it. A challenge for the designers is to build a product that is compatible with most existing toilets. It seems like they've done it, but there are caveats.
If you look at the picture I posted, you can see one potential outcome of what happens when your shorter "round" toilet has a tank that bulges out. Understandably the machinery of the Swash needs some space in the back. But if there isn't much space back there to start, like in the picture, it has the impact of making the back of the seat be a fair bit more forward than it normally is. And as a result of *that* you're now seated much closer to the *front* of the bowl.
The net of it all is that on a round toilet with a bulging tank like ours, gentleman will be "cramped" up front, as you can imagine. It's still usable, it's just a bit awkward.
Here's the thing--even if you have the ideal sized round toilet, I still think that the length of the opening of the toilet seat for the round version is on the short side, for men. It's definitely shorter than the normal toilet seat that I removed. It's just cramped, even in the best case. I haven't tried the elongated one, but my take is that on a toilet on which it fit well, it'd be just right.
I wish I'd been more aware of this issue, and had measured a lot more, especially the *front*. I was more concerned with measuring the back to see if it would fit at all, but didn't realize the front might be an issue. If I had, I probably would have gone to home depot, shopped and measured the reasonably priced Elongated toilets, and then bought the Elongated Swash to go with it. I just had no idea of the space challenges involved in this product, nor the relative shortness of the opening.
As a fix for now, I might shop for a different toilet tank (which should be an easier thing to switch out) that has a flat face, which would give room for the swash to move back.
A note vs. the Toto S300. The Toto isn't that much more (about $100 more on Amazon) and is faster, quieter, and feels more solid overall. I got a deal on my Swash, so I paid closer to $400 for mine, but if I had to choose between $600 for Swash 1000 and $700 for the Toto S300, I think I'd spend a little more to get the Toto.

Wish I'd bought one sooner., February 27, 2011
This review is from: Brondell S1000-RW Swash 1000 Advanced Bidet Round Toilet Seat, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
An excellent product that does what it promises.
Pros--gets you very clean, all temperatures are adjustable (heated seat, water), nozzles are adjustable forward and back and also oscillate, wide or narrow spray, it drys, remote control, took about 45 minutes to install with clear directions.
Cons--even with adjustable nozzle, frontal wash doesn't reach as far as it could so you need to scoot back to make it work; dryer takes too long (keep a dry wash cloth or hand towel nearby to finish up); needs a GFI outlet (fortunately my husband knows how to do electrical so we installed one ourselves).
Important info: GFI needs to be within 3.5 feet of the back, right side of the Brondell toilet seat (as you are facing it) as that is the length of the cord.
Overall my husband and I love it.

Now everything in the house is high tech., April 26, 2011
This review is from: Brondell S1000-RW Swash 1000 Advanced Bidet Round Toilet Seat, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
This device puts the "toy" in toilet.
We bought this because of temporary medical conditions in the past in which we wished we had a gentile washer.
We waited for the unit to arrive before putting in the GFI outlet. Worked great because we were able to situate the outlet so a blue LED nightlight we plugged shine on, as well matches the blue LED on the seat. I am sure many would pay a couple of hundred just for warm seat and style. The automatic deodorizer when you are done is another great feature. The dryer is a little odd I am surprised it does not come with a tiny hair brush; it does help at the end to feel dryer though.
After using it for a while you wonder if it was really worth all the money, until you travel somewhere and go without it for a week, than you really miss the clean feeling you get. Won't go into details as I am sure must people will develop their own technique. A manually initiated multi cycle process much like any cleansing device seems to work best; defiantly get one with a remote control.
Really glad we got this. This is not a bidet in what many think a bidet is for; this is a personal hygiene devise to reduce paper usage, and give a gentler, cleaner, and more discreet bathroom experience.
