Bronies are men who love the My Little Pony cartoon. I wasn't aware of the term before coming across this book, but being a lover of ponies and childhood fan of MLP, I had to give the anthology a chance.
Reading the stories brought me back to my childhood when I got My Little Pony magazine every Wednesday and I dreamed about owning a palomino pony called Twinkle. I remember one magical day of boring garden shop visits with my mother when I was allowed pick any pony I wanted from a nearby toy shop. I chose a red pony called gypsy. She became my constant companion.
Rememiscing aside, Bronies for the love of ponies is not a kiddies book full of sweet sugar coated stories and magical unicorns. Instead it is a bitter sweet anthology of broken people, love and loss, zombies, growing up, science, intolerance, illness, aliens and magical talking ponies.
The stories in this collection are for adults and they are all very good. So good, in fact, that I found it hard to put down and read the entire volume in one night. I don't know about Bronies, but I feel like taking my ponies out of storage and having another adventure with them. I wonder what Gypsy has been up to lately?
Published by Kazka press. I read the e book version. Highly recommended anthology of science fiction, fantasy and horror stories all with some connection to horses and ponies. I look forward to future anthologies from Kazka.
