Book Description

1934997412 978-1934997413 November 1, 2009 Abridged
The works of the Brontë sisters—Charlotte, Emily, and Anne—caused an uproar during their day, and continue to captivate modern readers with their vivid characters, passionate romanticism, sinister atmosphere, and feminist strains. This audiobook collects four examples of the sisters at the height of their powers. Charlotte is represented with Villette, a penetrating psychological study of a young woman teaching at an all-girls school; and the immortal Jane Eyre, acclaimed for its blend of social critique and Gothicism. Emily's equally classic Wuthering Heights unforgettably recounts the all-encompassing, yet thwarted, love between Heathcliff and Catherine. Finally, younger sister Anne offers a prescient tale of an idealistic young woman trying to save her brutish husband from himself in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Readers Hannah Gordon, Carole Boyd, and David Rintoul dramatize these masterpieces in high British style.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Bronte Collection, May 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am an avid fan of the three Bronte sisters' works, and was very excited to finally get an audio collection of some of their best-known works: Jane Eyre; Wuthering Heights; The Tenant of Wildfell Hall; and Villette. Even though the presentation is alright, these audio books are extremely abbreviated versions of the originals. This, in my way of thinking, is very sad, and constitutes a poor product. These master pieces should never be abbreviated or shortened or changed. Only an unabridged version is really worth listening to. Sorry, but this product does not live up to standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done., April 21, 2011
Loved the Bronte sisters in college oh so many years ago, and still do to this day. Good collection with all the novels and a clickable table of contents. Can't go wrong.

2.0 out of 5 stars missing part, January 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I started with Jane Eyre. The formatting is perfectly acceptable, but it was missing half of chapter 25. I reported it and the publisher claimed it was there. Is it only on my Kindle? I returned it and am trying another version.
