Holy Cr&p. These Guys Bring Hardcore Back,
By
This review is from: The Bronx (Audio CD)
Now I have seen some reviews that say that the Bronx genre of music has been done before. Well.... yeah! It is hard to find a total original band anymore. Talk to any musician and they have influences and they will try to emulate what they like. Now for the Bronx. These guys do what alot of old hardcore bands did that have gone soft or over-produced. These guys simply go 1000 miles and hour with all the angst that the old HC bands did. Yeah I hear a large list of bands in these guys and I love it! No candy pop "radio friendly" punk here. Just good old HC. Yeah, they may look "glam" but, the command respect once they start playing. This is no Celebrity Skin or Janes Addiction. This is almost like the Freeze, Gangreen, Jerrys Kids, Minor Threat, 7 Seconds (without the ewwhhs and ahhhs) and as another said SNFU (old), Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu. I think you get the idea. If like Hardcore and remember what it used to be, you need this album!

The Bronx destroy!,

I consider this to be one of my top ten favorite punk records released this decade. It's packed with so much energy and catchy song writing, as well as a healthy dose of rock and roll, that it can't help but get you all pumped up and singing along. When I first bought it, I think I played it about ten times in a row straight through and had the same kind of feeling I had when I first played The New Bomb Turk's "Destroy Oh-Boy!" You know, like who is this band and why doesn't everyone know how fantastic this record is? Fantastic record and great live band. I just saw them Saturday night for the second time, the singer was out in the audience with the crowd singing along to the hits of this record, inviting kids on stage to dance, and really putting on a show.

Who cares what record label they're on?,

People are complaining that they're too glam and on a major label (OMG! A major?!?). Judging a band by the way they dress and the label they're on is lame. As cliche as this sounds, the music is what should be judged. I saw these guys live and I was convinced that they have whatever it is good bands have. They were loud, entertaining, and played an awesome show even though the crowd wasn't very large. The singer was jumping in and dancing with the teenagers and spouting drunken rants in-between songs. Everytime I listen to this cd it reminds me of the good times I had that night. Awesome band, awesome cd. Just kick back and rock out. Don't let the superficial stuff get in the way. Don't listen to the stuck-up hipsters that plague the scene.

I haven't heard anything this good in a long time. The facts are simple...If you like energetic, fast-pace, punkish music, you'll feel right at home with the bronx. I heard of them because I like most of ferret records bands. I came to amazon to hear a little bit of the songs and honestly wasen't too impressed, but then again my computer sound is...a little under par to say the least. Went and picked it up, and now is still one of the best CD's I own.

If you haven't purchased this cd yet, you must. This is something you can listen straight through without using the 'next' button. This band is loud and driving, if you want something to scream to, this is it

The Bronx opened for Poison the Well, and Everytime I Die at a local hardcore show. Needless to say we weren't too thrilled to hear a band called "the bronx". We were just there for the big boys of hxc. We were totally wrong! They blew us away and it was the best fun we've had at a show since I can't remember. They were simply awesome. A must have cd.

First of all, I realize that this isn't a place to rant about it, but whining about MTV bands is pretty weak. If you're listening to Bronx, you should be past that. But anyway, this album is one of the biggest adrenaline rushes I've bought in a loooong time. When I'm listening to it in the car and check my speedometer and find that I feel like I'm going a whole lot faster than I really am (very lucky). The CD's a little on the short side despite ten songs, but this is the real rock. This is extremely hard, but still very accessible. Great great album

You know what they say, if "something is too good to be true, it probably is". Which means these guys are likely robots or at least cyborgs...PROGRAMMED TO ROCK!!Seriously, it's been sometime since I've heard such a tight, basic (which is a compliment) rock unit. People ask me what kind of music the Bronx is and I immediatly dismiss all of the Spin magazine terms of post-punk this, hardcore-that. They are just rockin' hard, and fun. If they get more magazine or media coverage, these guys will burn down the houses of the Hives, Strokes, Vines, White Stripes or just about any other band whos name starts with "The". **It is noteworthy that they are from Los Angeles. But I still like them.

The Bronx are gonna save rock'n'roll.,

Either that or pour the final shovelful of earth over its fetid corpse.Think the raw intensity of early Black Flag mixed with the gonzoid mania of Iggy and the Stooges and seasoned with a sprinkling of vintage AC/DC. Yeah, that primal, that ferocious, that damn essential. Every now and then bands like this come along and remind you of the power and glory to be found in rock played the way it's supposed to be played -- stripped down, no[fluff]100% from the heart & gut, 110% pure feral energy. Listening to this, you just know the band are absolutely awesome live, which I intend to confirm ASAP. No point going through this track by track. It's all good. "White Tar" is my personal favorite, but that's almost a meaningless distinction in an album full of killer songs. Just go out and buy it if you wanna hear one of the finest slabs of butt-kicking punk metal ever recorded. I dunno if the Bronx have come to praise rock'n'roll or bury it, but they'll restore your faith if only for the wake. Absolutely essential.
