5.0 out of 5 stars The comprehensive Rodin Bronze monograph, March 1, 2009
This review is from: The Bronzes of Rodin 2 volume set (Hardcover)
Antoinette Le Normand-Romain's "The Bronzes of Rodin" is a tour de force of meticulous scholarship. The two volume monograph covers the bronze castings in the Musee Rodin collections, with detailed discussions of every aspect of the process of August Rodin's preparation of studies for his major projects and cogent presentations of his lesser known ones. The volumes are strategically illustrated, with color photographs of the major works and small, useful photographs of the minor ones. Bronze castings of Rodin's work have been the focus of heated discussion among art historians in recent years regarding what constitutes "original" work and what constitutes a "copy". These books are for readers, professionals and interested lay persons alike, who seek a clear and authoritative perspective on these issues.
