Book Description

Shapeshifter Brand Geirson was raised to rule the Broods of Fenrir, but he refused his birthright. Instead, he killed their brutal leader–his own father–and walked away.

For hundreds of years he’s avoided brood society, until a werewolf kills an innocent human woman and Brand finds himself dragged back into the violent politics of the shapeshifters. When the two brood women who mean the most to him come under threat, he must take up the throne and risk becoming the kind of vicious bastard his father was, or let the broods descend further into chaos–taking the friend he swore to protect and his lover with them.

Contains Strong Language, Violence, and Sexual Situations.

About the Author

Coral Moore has always been the kind of girl who makes up stories. Fortunately, she never quite grew out of that. She writes because she loves to invent characters and the desire to find out what happens to her creations drives the tales she tells. Prompted by a general interest in how life works, her undergraduate schooling was in biology. She follows science news and enjoys conversations about genetics and microbiology as much as those about vampires and werewolves. Coral writes speculative fiction and is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Writing at Albertus Magnus College. Currently she lives in Connecticut with the love of her life, who offers both encouragement and kicks in the tail when necessary. Also in residence are two mammals of the families Canidae and Felidae.

5.0 out of 5 stars Werewolves aged to perfection December 5, 2011
By Wist
Format:Kindle Edition
Broods of Fenrir is an urban fantasy infused with Norse mythology, and I was quickly absorbed into a world where our present time was put on the outside of my perception.

Werewolves just the way I like them: raw, ruthless and made even more beautiful with age. Brand is a five hundred year old werewolf who doesn't want to follow in his father's barbaric steps and rule over the broods. Because there is only one way to keep control of them, and he doesn't want to submit to the savage wolf in him to do it.

But he can only avoid his birthright so long. When Alice and Dagny are put in danger by the other broods who don't mind filling Brand's shoes, he finds himself trying to get to the bottom of the threats around them. Doing such while avoiding his unwanted title only makes things more complicated--and often painful.

Brand is by far my new favorite tortured hero. His character takes you right to the edge till you're holding your breath, unsure of what he might do next. My second favorite character was Alice, as her feelings of friendship for Brand run so deep, and despite being considered weaker, she's the last one you want to make snap. All of the characters in here are exceptionally real and have something about them to love, or in the case of their adversaries, seriously hate.

Definitely recommended for paranormal romance fans who are tired of the soft and gentle versions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal Delights March 28, 2012
Format:Paperback
In the past five years, the paranormal romance genre has exploded on the literary scene following the heels of Twilight. Vampires, werewolves and other mythical creatures have been brushed off, spruced up and given the sparkle treatment. Though some say paranormal romance is on the decline, Coral Moore's Broods of Fenrir dashes boldly into well-charted territory and carves its own path.
The novel revolves around Brand Geirson, a werewolf living in modern times. Brand is the rightful king of a vicious brood of werewolves that he has shunned for their brutal ways. A lone wolf (pun intended), Brand lives a secluded life away from most of his brood-mates. Brand makes one exception in Alice, a runt of the litter, who was brutalized by another male some years back. Brand rescues her and takes her in. It is here, through his protection of Alice, that we see the kind of man and wolf Brand can be. He is as selfless as he is courageous. Throughout he puts himself on the line to save his weaker brethren from the violent tactics werewolf leaders use to keep their underlings in check. The story heats up when he meets Dagny, the sexy, yet damaged daughter of his former advisor. Their steamy romance complicates Brand's life dramatically, but he will stop at nothing to protect her, even if it means his life.

This story cannot be classified as strictly young adult fiction because the characters are adults and the sexual content gets R rated. However, older teens and adults will find themselves drawn in by the sympathy they feel toward Brand and his predicament. He is a true hero to his core. The sex scenes are gratuitous, but I have to admit kept me riveted. This story is a quick, light read, somewhere around 260 pages. Brand is likable. The conflict is engaging. There were times when the tension dwindled and the setting lost some of its luster, but those issues did not detract from my enjoyment of the story Moore tells. Overall, I'd say for the cost of a cup of coffee, this book is definitely worth the price and will likely keep you satisfied longer than your grande mocha frapachino.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Tale February 27, 2013
Format:Paperback
The change of pace from everyday wolf legend mixed with Norse mythology is fresh and exciting.

Fate seemed to be against Brand Geirson when he was made king; there were so many things about his world he just did not want to deal with. Brand brings an unusual intenseness to this story making it a fast paced and exhilarating read. Alice's timid nature bugged me and even though she was so `nice' I did not find her character to be appealing at all.

Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
