Hey Folks, I'm Peyton and I recorded a video of me using the Non-Contact at my work. I test room temp, my forehead and surface temp. One of the measurements is of the Surface Temp of the Thermometer on the wall that controls our A/C (which the boss likes to leave off). You'll see that its 100% accurate!! Great product!

Thanks for watching!

What a great product! I have a 9 week old baby, so this non contact thermometer is great for us. Our baby recently had her immunization shots and we were told to keep an eye on her temperature for a couple days. This non-contact thermometer allowed us to take frequent readings without having to wake or disturb her, which is a huge plus. My wife was a little skeptical about the accuracy and wanted to confirm the readings with another thermometer. So, we took her temperature with an ear thermometer, which really upset the baby, only to find that the readings were virtually the same. To further build my wife's confidence in the product, I brought the 5 in 1 to work, where I have access to a wide array of calibrated test equipment. I checked the 5 in 1 against several devices, including Omega contact pyrometers and thermocouples, a Flir thermographic imaging camera, and a Raytek infrared gun; all of which verified the accuracy of Kidz Med 5 in 1 Thermometer. I have TOTAL confidence in this product. LOVE IT!!!!

I will first say that I am satisfied with this product, as it does what it says it does. I am a little suspicious of the reviews here on Amazon and I feel they have been spammed by the manufacturer. This thermometer does work. I do not believe it is super accurate, but what it does seem to be is consistent. It always shows my daughter to be 98.2 at the forehead. It always shows me to be 97.7 at the forehead. I dont know, maybe these are accurate numbers, but the product manual goes on at great length about how the unit has an internal calibration offset so that it always displays relative core temperature. It does not seem so.

I have used infrared thermometers extensively in the past for industrial applications, and that is basically what this thing is, packaged in a more family health oriented case. The green yellow and red LCD backlighting is kind of cool for quick glance.

Like I said I do find the thermometer to be consistent, which for this type of device is more important than spot on accuracy to me. I know that it reads ~.5-1 degree low, so I just take this into account when using it. I do suspect the 40+ five star rave reviews though. Sometimes I wish Amazon would not let you review a product you have not purchased from them.

First, let me qualify my opinion by stating that I work in the medical field. I am very familiar with pediatrics and would like to state that this item has a very good reputation for its accuracy. I used it on several occasions with patients as well as with my own children. I understand that some reviews state that they are recieving inconsistancies. I feel this may be due to user error. The temporal artery has a common pathway straight up the middle of the front of the forehead (metopic suture of a child), I tested this item to find that the temperatures only fluctuate if you are to far to the right or left, because you are farther away from the artery. It is not difficult to be consitant, but being unaware is probably the issue. I tested this item on my ill child and on my well child at different times to find that as long as you are in the center of the front of the forehead, it is infact consistant. I would highly recommend this item for parents of infants and young childrent because you don't have to wake them up to get the temp, especially when nasal congestion, chest congestion, and sinus irritation is preventing restfull sleep to begin with.

Later i used the thermometer to test room temperature aswell as confirm the accuracy of my thermastat, it passed with flying colors.

WOW is all I have to say, I admit I am the ultimate consumer but this thermometer blew me away. I got it for my sister who just had a baby and as a first time Mom she said it is the best gift she could have ever got. Does exactly what it says, works in a second and 100% hygenic, will buy another for myself when they are in stock.

Our primary reason for choosing this item is because of the non-contact design compared to oral and ear thermometers. The convenience of non-contact and the speed it takes to get body temperature is incomparable.

There are currently a lot of complaints with this device on accuracy. Would like to share my solution to the inaccuracy of the device.

The device is a non-contact type thermometer. So it literally measures the temperature of the skin surface. While the instructions tell you to get temperature readings from the forehead, this will give a huge discrepancy as the device measures the combined temperature of the skin surface temperature together with the ambient temperature (current room temperature) giving a lower reading. Which may not be the device's fault but a design limitation.

example: We normally put a sick child in an air conditioned room of approximately 22 deg C (71.6F). Our sick child with fever has an actual temperature reading of 39 deg C (102.2F). As the child's forehead is exposed to the cold temp of the room, the actual skin surface temp will be cooled down by the aircon. Hence, the reading you get will be a cooled down temp of about 37-38 deg C (98.6-100.4F) giving a seemingly inaccurate measurement.

The FIX:
The work around solution here is to measure temperature of the child with skin parts not completely exposed to the cold air. I normally get from the ear canal or the neck.

Ear canal is not exposed the cold air (that is why ear thermometers get the temperature here, giving it seemingly constant and accurate readings). so with the kids med, point the device to the ear canal and get your reading. this will give much better temperature readings than getting it from the forehead.
