Incredible movie- riveting and edgy- a fresh perspective on the classic human struggle with a tragic twist,
This review is from: Brooklyn Bound (DVD)
Brooklyn Bound combines that rare combination of gut wrenching reality and quality entertainment. While this movie and that other well known drugs and violence classic both deal with the same subject matter, that's where the similarity ends, and not to many folks would be able to identify with Tony Montana. What makes this movie so riveting is its ability to humanize Sean, the main character, and the rest of the cast, while exposing the brutal and sordid underbelly of the streets in and around the projects of Brooklyn. It hits the mark, when, while viewing the movie, one gets the sense that they are watching a fascinating and violent documentary of the streets and the culture, rather than a work of fiction. Throw in a temple blasting hip hop soundtrack and this is one awesome movie. Sure to become a classic.

Yet another movie ...,

I watched the movie and have some mixed feelings. The movie is well done, no doubts here. Why then I didn't give it 5 stars? Well, it raises all the same questions about drugs, gangs, life in misery with no hopes. Yes, the questions are important. If you just came from another planet that movie would probably open your eyes. But if you've been around for a few years, that movie won't tell you anything new. It repeats the same messages. So after watching the film I got that deja vu feeling - like I've already seen it somewhere. Maybe in another movie, or maybe in the news or right on the street. There is nothing special making that movie to stand out, just yet another film about troubled youth not able to escape a circle of drugs and street gangs.

I saw this movie at the tribeca film festival last year. I have been waiting to get my hands on a copy of this movie for a long time.It is a spectacular film. The acting was superb. It truly portrays the urban grit of life in the drug infested hood. You start to care about the characters even though you know they should be punished for their poor choices in life, you don't want them to be. This is a top notch movie and I know I enjoyed it. |
