Product Description

Born and raised to run the trail, the Cascadia 9 loves to get down and gritty. Tackle tricky terrain with 4-point pivot posts that balance like an SUV's independent suspension system and protect those paws with the ballistic rock shield underfoot. No-sew construction brings comfort sans weight and a BioMoGo DNA midsole adapts cushioning to not only your feet, but also the surfaces of adventure. Enhancements like a slightly lowered heel and flat laces equip this next generation Cascadia for the call of the wild. We're not the only people wild about the Cascadia 9. Runner's World Magazine named the shoe "Editor's Choice" in their April 2014 issue. The editors called the Cascadia "a workhorse", noting that "it provides a supportive yet flexible ride on diverse trail surfaces and is great for running on snowy pavement." Oh, and they also noted that the Cascadia 9 "looks as good with jeans as it does on singletrack trails." Aw, shucks. Please note: The Cascadia is designed as a trail running shoe. While a lot of people love it as a fastpacking and thru-hiking shoe while carrying ultralight gear; the Cascadia is not pack-rated and may not hold up to the extra weight and demands of long pack hikes. We're your go-to option for trail runs, but a sturdy hiking boot may be better suited for heavy packs. > See the Women's Cascadia 9 Runner's World is a registered trademark of Rodale Inc. 2014 Rodale Inc. IMO they did well on steep sandy descents.

The midsole and heel have a nice gel-like feel.

I bought a pair of these about a week ago. They were comfortable right out of the box. I run off road more than I do on road. I bought them primarily to train for a super spartan. I have yet to really trash them out in mud pits and whatnot. The midsole and heel have a nice gel-like feel. Real bouncy. The rockplate adds some bounce to the front of your foot too. They fit nice with lots of toe room and the top of the shoe doesnt strangle your feet or ankles. I bought the orange ones and they are very loud to look at. I figure they will get dirty soon enough and it will probably be less noticeable. The lugs are not too agressive that you have to stay off concrete. I have ran and walked on concrete wih them and they feel fine. The lugs show no wear as a result of it.

Great shoe! I have just reached the end of the life of my first pair. Although the description says they're not the perfect choice for a thru hike I have hiked from Springer Mountain Georgia to Jennings Creek on the Appalachian Trail. That's more than 750 miles with a 30-40 pound pack. They were perfectly comfortable up to mile 700 and quickly wore out after that. The terrain ranged from easy gravel to the worst sharpest loosest steepest rocks you can imagine. They only slid out from under me one time and that was on a muddy downhill. There were many instances when the shoes would get soaked with water, creek crossings, thunderstorms and puddles. They dried easy enough with a little effort such a camp fire. I guess I have nothing bad to say about these shoes. I have a new pair on their way to me now so I can get back on the trail tomorrow!

I hike daily several blocks up our street to a trail that starts as blacktop but transitions to dirt and sandstone; fairly steep ups and downs. I am relatively heavy but reasonably fit. I normally wear a 12 EEE running/walking shoe, but 12.5D in this trail shoe fits perfectly. My knees rebelled against running a few years ago so now I walk briskly about an hour per day. They are sufficiently comfortable that I purchased four pair since manufacturers tend to discard success along with their failures every year or so. Maybe not enough cushion for heavier people who actually run on trails, but just fine for someone like me who exerts less pressure per step. Good grip. I have typically worn Nike, Asic and New Balance shoes in the past but the Cascadia 9 compares favorably to any others I have tried for any reason. I have worn the rear tread down on one pair and now wear it for daily casual wear.
