5.0 out of 5 stars Like running on marshmellows, July 14, 2010
I absolutely love these shoes. I run up, down and around the mountains in the Phoenix area. These are the best shoes I have worn so far. My knees were taking a beating going up and particularly down on rather large rocks. The first time I wore the Cascadia 5 I kept waiting to feel a jolt of pain in my knees but it never happened. Then when I got on the trail I found myself long-striding without even thinking about it. I have shortened my stride considerably over the years due to knee pain, but found myself taking longer and longer strides. In the end, I cut my time considerably thanks to these shoes. I have run up and down on all types of terrain...rock, packed dirt, loose dirt, gravel, and cement and these shoes have handled all surfaces equally well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky Road with a side dish of asparagus. huh?, February 2, 2011

Living in Afghanistan has its disadvantages. Of course there is being in a war torn country and needing to carry a weapon everywhere you go, but lets not call me Mr. Obvious. Other disadvantages are trying to run without getting blown up, but if you have set up a perimeter well enough that the base is "relatively" safe, the next challenge is running without rolling your ankle. We like to make our roads with just rocks and then more rocks. little rocks and BIG ROCKS, and you cannot get away from them. I already have a hard time walking around, let alone running. So after painstaking, finger nubbing and blood shot eyes from lack of sleep research of a whole 12 mins. (thank you Amazon, your awesome) I completed my task. I finalized my decision on these "belt" matching(inside Army joke)shoes.

I have put about 20 miles into them and they feel pretty damn good. No problems with running except the occasional loose slip every now and then, but I haven't rolled the ankle. the sole is pretty meaty and grips the ground really well. they are stable under the feet as long as I keep my balance above my feet and not get sloppy on my running stance. Additionally, feeling the ground (as most like), not to shabby there either. Gives me a since of a "split second necessary adjustment" feel when needed, if you know what I mean.

I've been a "love you long time" to nike. Cannot say that anymore. Sadly, feeling like I had a "seven year itch" I have cheated on Nike and I liked it. These shoes are pretty amazing and I don't know if I can go back, at least when it comes to trail shoes. I look forward to challenging them in the warrior dash and the muddy buddy this year. I took a leap of faith on these bad boys and I am glad I did. Brooks did a pretty good job on these shoes. I just might get a back up pair, so there isn't a gap of time waiting for the next.

If you like running and you like trails, these Cascadias will not let you down.

my only beef? double knotting the laces is a must. yes, one knot doesn't cut it, they will loosen after awhile for you marathoners.

5.0 out of 5 stars First pair of Brooks, December 29, 2010

Jonathan Keeth (NAPLES, FLORIDA, US) - See all my reviews
I was reluctant at first to run in these shoes as I run primarily on the road with little to no trail work (these are trail shoes). Every review I read of them was glowing and went on and on about how they were a very road friendly trail shoe. They were right. First day out of the box, I logged 10 road miles in them. They performed wonderfully, no problems with cushioning, stability, or overheating (my biggest concern with these).
In addition, they are the most environmentally friendly running shoe that I am aware of with the midsole taking only 20 years to breakdown in the landfill instead of the industry standard 1000 years.
I highly recommend these shoes and will definitely purchase another pair when they need to be replaced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Shoe I've Used So Far, September 21, 2011
I've been using the New Balance Men's MT909 Trail Running Shoe for the past year and though satisfied with them, they were not everything I was looking for in a running shoe: a true trail runner that was also at home on the street. I recently bought a pair of Brooks Men's Cascadia Trail Running Shoes and was pleasantly surprised to discover how comfortable a shoe can be. No break in was required for my initial run (a quick 5k.) Foot pain that I endured for years suddenly stopped, along with leg cramps and the echoing pain of long healed shin splints. These shoes breathe well, cushion completely, fit perfectly and are as home on asphalt as they are on the trail. Sure enough, a few weeks after I bought them, Brooks discontinued this shoe. I bought 3 more pair as soon as I found out (but at about half the price quoted here.) Highly recommended, but not for long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and Small, March 9, 2011
I used to wear nothing but Nike running shoes, they were great for support and comfort. Then the last pair really blew so I tried UnderArmour. Those shoes were worse than the Nike. So then I saw these Brooks! Good reviews all around sold me. I tried them on and they felt great. Unfortunately, I realized they run on the small side about a mile into my first run once the feet swelled some and I hit some downhill; the overall comfort was great though, I just need more room in the toebox. It's too late to send them back, I'll be ordering a half size larger next and hopefully selling these "9.5".
My advice to buyers is to order a half size larger than your used to wearing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great trail runners, December 15, 2010
I bought these shoes and promptly headed out for a 6 mile run in the woods. Wow - these are great shoes. Running that far in new shoes is supposed to be a no - no, but I had no problems. Very comfortable and fast right out of the box.

This is a solid, sturdy and comfortable shoe. I use it for travel as an all around running, hiking, walking around shoe and it delivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great shoe, November 17, 2010

Third pair so these fit me fine and will continue to purchase them. As you know when you find a running shoe that fits and feels great you keep coming back to the same shoe before they discontinue the style. I wear them everyday with no problems. Not as ugly as the other colors they came in or come in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing better than Brooks...for me at least, October 10, 2010

The only shoe I run with that helps me deal with shin splints and wallet splints.

Great trail shoe...not insane stupid expensive like it's competitors

4.0 out of 5 stars Wish they made them wider, October 6, 2010
I usually run in Brooks Racer ST - they are very lightweight and for a light guy, last long enough. Racers however have a design where the hard padding on the bottom of the shoe goes off if you try running on anything off-road. In this respect, Cascadia is very rugged, offering an extra protection and a grippier sole (stiffer too), and I can be more careless while running in a forest. While I like everything about the shoe, they do feel narrower and shorter than the Racers of the same size (even though they have the insole of the same shape and size, and Cascadia's outsole is even bigger). As a result, they don't feel as comfortable and after the first run the inner side of one my forefoot feels like a blister.
