4.0 out of 5 stars Very good long-distance ROAD shoe..., August 6, 2008
This review is from: Brooks Men's Trance 7 Running Shoe (Apparel)
I bought these for long (6-15 miles) runs on asphalt or concrete, and for that they work wonderfully...very sturdy and comfortable. The reason I don't use them for softer surfaces like dirt or grass, or for shorter runs, and especially not for speedwork, is their weight---the same massive amount of cushioning needed for long runs on hard surfaces is totally unnecessary and counterproductive for other applications. A lighter, thinner-soled and more flexible shoe is much better in those situations.

Generally am very happy with all of my Brooks shoes and apparel. Brooks makes ONLY running gear, so you know they're going to be good since it's their sole bread and butter specialty. One of the things about Brooks I really like is the fit, I have medium arches and a narrow heel, and their shoes have always fit me like a glove, especially the ever-popular Adrenalines. The Trance is similar to the Adrens, though the heel is a little bit tight...I use a little athletic tape over my Achilles tendon to avoid any abrasions, but since this only happens on my left foot, it might have more to do with my own biomechanics than the shoe itself.

The reason I give this shoe 4 instead of 5 stars is because I think that in hindsight, I probably should've stayed with the slightly lighter and simpler Adrenaline. I'm have a medium-build at 5'9" and 165lbs, and am a very efficient midfoot striker; I think that this shoe would be best for a heavier and less efficient runner, especially a heel striker. That said, the Trance is especially good for mid- or fore-foot strikers because it seems to have a lower heel than other Brooks models...unless I'm deceived by outward appearance.

(Speaking of outward appearance, I'm not crazy about the blingy silver-and-lime color of this model; there is a red and silver version which I would've bought instead if it'd been available at that time.)

Oh well, you gotta try everything once. The Trance 7 is certainly a HUGE improvement over the last Trance model I tried, the NSX from several years ago.

UPDATE 2/23/09: just ran a marathon with these shoes last week. They held up perfectly, I got zero blisters and my knees felt fine afterwards. I must have at least 200 miles on them by now, they're still going strong...

5.0 out of 5 stars shoes for hubby, January 11, 2009
I bought two pairs for hubby. These are his favorite shoes and they were so cheap, they were almost $100 off the price in a mall store...We are on a keep the closest stocked with Amazon Brooks running shoes plan now. Friend's hubby bought himself two pairs too.

All I can say is this.

Some times if I had a long practice the day before and my legs feel sore when I wake up, as soon as I put these on and stand in them I feel better. I mean that my entire body (joints and all) feel better standing, walking, and running compared to when I am sitting down. The last pair of shoes I had, I would get a sharp pain in my arches after awhile and limp around. With theses shoes I have not experienced any pain whatsoever with these on. I will now get only Brooks Trances.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best, July 11, 2009
This review is from: Brooks Men's Trance 7 Running Shoe (Apparel)
Absolutely the best running shoe I've ever owned. True fit. Usually have a hard time finding the right size. Not here, a 10 1/2 is a 10 1/2. They have a little wider width than most (Which is great) and great arch support. I've been running in them for a year now and they still feel great.

4.0 out of 5 stars great running shoes, December 18, 2008
This review is from: Brooks Men's Trance 7 Running Shoe (Apparel)
These shoes feels similar to the kayanos in terms of the amount of support, but lighter. Less flexible and sensitive compared to mizunos. Still a good shoe, but I honestly believe sometimes cheaper shoes (around the 100 dollar range) are better than the high end ones (140 bucks -- kayano, hurricane, trance). Not only are they lighter and more simplistic, sometimes when they try to pack all their best technology into a single shoe they end up over doing it. Perhaps I'm just not heavy enough to appreciate the extra support they provide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Running Shoes, December 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Brooks Trance are a comfortable and efficient model. I have also found these running shoes to be quite durable. I purchsed a new insole to put in my last pair, and they still feel great after several hundred miles of runs. These shoes are normally expensive, but worth it if you can find a deal on them. I found these online for $40 when they retailed last year for about $135. If you have a model you like, that fit well, it pays to search online for older models that are overstocked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Shoe!!, November 19, 2008

I'm not an avid runner, but after running a 5K with NO training, I was told I should run more often. The biggest piece of advise... GET A GOOD PAIR OF RUNNING SHOES. I did some research, and found this shoe to be a good match for my running style and size (I'm 6'1" and 205lbs). Go on Brooks website. They have a neat tool to help pick the right shoe.
I just got these, and haven't run any real distance with them, but let me tell you... these felt great right out of the box! The size was true, and the fit was incredible. Good looking shoe. My 5yr old son said they look like a girls' shoe, but I (and my wife) think they look cool. At the current price, I'm considering buying another for a spare.
