Product Description

The Brooks England B17 Bike Saddle has been cushioning bums on bikes since 1898. This, the B17 Women's Standard S, cushions your female bum during long road tours and off-road jaunts. Brooks England made this bike seat wider than those in its sports category for comfort on long, multiday rides. This saddle's leather cover, chrome-plated steel rivets, and steel rails look classy atop your two-wheeled steed--plus, the leather conforms to your body shape like leather boots fit your feet.

I bought this Brooks saddle via Amazon in Summer of 2013. Since then, the rails on the saddle have snapped. I've tried contacting Brooks multiple times regarding the prospect of a warranty repair or replacement. They are doing everything they can to stall me and dodge the issue, and each time the fact that I purchase through Amazon is their main complaint. Massively disappointing and frustrating.

First off, saddles fit everyone differently. Brooks may get around this some because they break in to your shape but there are some people who are just never going to like the fit of these. There is nothing wrong with that just the way it is. I now have 2 brooks saddles. A red one about 6 months old that is broken in pretty well at this point and a brand new blue one that just has one ride on it. I followed the Brooks directions on both by putting proofhide on them liberally prior to putting them on the bike. Just as they describe, due to the nature of the leather they are breaking in differently. The red one took several rides before I could even notice it was breaking in. After one ride with the blue I can already see dimples forming. I don't think this has anything to do with the color just different pieces of leather. As far as the feel goes yeah they are a little stiff at first but even then the shape was good so they fit better than other saddles I have tried. I also noticed I slid around a little bit more on them before breaking in. They are both on a mountain bike. The sliding around may not happen on the road since you are not out of the saddle as much. If you are looking for this type of saddle you may have also come across Selle Anatomica. I tried one of their saddles first and did not like it. I have a friend who has also had the same issue with Selle Anatomica. The Brooks is definitely better for me.

I have been a serious cyclist for the past 14 years. I have tried a number of saddles and all have left me with a desire for more. I have been on a B-17 for the past three years and have been pleased with the fit and comfortable ride. Once you find the sweet spot for your sit bones, your butt becomes the least of your problems (as opposed to lungs and legs). My bike shop also provided me with Brooks bar ends which really helps make my bike look terrific. Long milage riders will appreciate Brooks. The only complaint I have is the rails are flared out which means my Topeak saddle bag doesn't attach easily. Small problem for so much comfort.

First to note I have owned a B17 before and already knew the feel of a Brooks saddle (*was on a stolen bike; hence replacement*). If that is in question, no doubt this saddle is perfect for just about anything. I commute and tour on my previous B17 and literally stopped wearing cycling shorts with pads because there was no need for them anymore. Romp pain goes way down with a Brooks. But back to the GREEN BROOKS SADDLE, it gives it just enough style to turn heads but while riding its like a dark horse of awesome. Already after a week of city miles on the saddle, it she already feels like we've been together for years. Has already been through snowy city streets and downpours. Haven't babied it. Solid as a rock. I always hear about people scared to get brooks wet...wrong. just keep your leather moist as in lather up some leather conditioner (don't forgot the bottom) every couple months, even longer sometimes. since it is brand new, still fresh to death.

Through 35 years and multi-thousands of miles of road and mountain biking, I've owned five saddles -- two horribly uncomfortable seats, one good one that broke, two very nice ones still in use, and now this beautiful Brooks I've installed today on my commuter bike. I've just returned from a half hour spin, and I already know this saddle will be the best of my life.

Yes, it's as hard as ebony, but I know right now that its design ... form ... shape ... whatever that's called ... accomodates all of the shifts of weight and angles that a cyclist's behind requires while climbing, descending, and cruising. It seems to support and contain my precious bottom's motion while allowing a slick transition between positions.

I wouldn't head out on long ride on it tomorrow - I've been warned about riding a new Brooks - but my daily few miles will be painless, I know, and I suspect I'll be thinking about replacing my other two bikes' perfectly decent saddles with Brooks.

Why, oh why, did I wait so long to finally get a Brooks? I guess I was afraid of the initial break-in. Well, unless a rider's leaving tomorrow on a long, long ride, I know there's no need to fear a Brooks. Even then, I think it'd work out. A serious rider has a serious bottom.

My serious bottom is happy.

This saddle is, hands down, the best after market purchace for my bicycle. I am a couple times a week commuter and I enjoy long distance touring. Over the July weekend I did a 200 mile trip along the coast of Southern California and am happy to say, sans saddle sores.
The only potential problem is that I may forget what a lower quality bicycle saddle feels like and become soft! I will be getting one for my mountain bike next.

Trust this stranger on this one...get the Brooks!
