Good, solid shoe,

First of all, I would encourage anyone who shops for running or walking shoes go to a shoe establishment that analyses your specific gait. You really need to do this in order to determine the type and amount of support that your body needs, relative to footwear, so that you can select the shoe that will be most comfortable and healthy for your foot and body.
Then, you can order your shoes online. I did purchase the 1st pair Brooks Addiction in a brick and morter store and order 2 more online the same day. Now, my story. I needed a comfortable walking shoe. I was seeking a replacement because the sleek, shapely looking Rockports that I own and love have not only fallen apart after 5-6 years, but have also been discontinued. Ok. Shoe shopping can be a traumatic experience for me because I have narrow, flat feet and small ankles. It is hard to find shoes that fit me well. I shopped for walking shoes in the winter of '09 and they didn't work out, I returned them and just wore my old Rockport DMX-C APW33101 Walking Shoe, which were were so raggedy they were talking, and Columbia sandals. After sloshing through water in 34 degree weather on Christmas Day in two pair of socks and my sandals, I was driven to desperation. I would be forced to enter the jungle that is shoe shopping. So after Christmas, while in the D.C. area , I summoned guidance for my dilema from non-other than the reigning walking shoe queen of Fairfax. From there, she took me to a really good running/walking shoe. After trying on a pair of gait neutral shoes (the brand is unknown to me), climbing up on a treadmill with a camera pointed at my feet and having the salesperson observe my gait, she picked 3 pairs of shoes for me. One pair was the Brooks Addiction walking shoe, based upon the type and location of support that she determined that I needed. The Brooks Addiction shoe is the only medium width walking shoe that properly fits the width of my foot. No slipping heels or feet swimming in the shoes here. The shoes are solid, sturdy and well made. They are not the most streamlined or prettiest of walking shoes, but they are not the clunkiest looking or the ugliest shoes either. I was looking for a fairly flexible shoe like my old Rockports. While the Broooks are not as flexible, the shoe gives enough. The Brooks are not so rigid as to cause pain, unlike a another brand (NOT Rockport) of walking shoe that I purchased in '09 and had to return due to the stiffness of the shoe and the ensueing pain from walking in them. My only complaint is that the top of my foot where the laces are tied, as you go closer in towards the leg, feels a little squeezed in as the day progresses. I will try to play with the laces some more to see if I can fix that. The shoes are still new and I am still getting used to them. The shoes are clunkier looking than my Rockport walking shoes. Overall, the Brooks Addiction shoe has been reasonable replacement for the Rockport. UPDATE: That squeezed in feeling around the laces has ceased! My shoes are nicely broken in, though I still wish that they were a bit more flexible.

My picky podiatrist introduced me to Brooks Addiction Walking shoes--and he was right! I've had both ankles replaced because of a birth defect that caused overpronation and flat feet. While the surgery replaced the severely damaged joints, it did not repair the cause of the problem, so I still have flat feet and ankles that turn inward (pronate). So good supportive shoes are essential and these have great support and are the most comfortable walking shoes I've ever had. Definitely not a fashion statement, but who care if your feet don't hurt and you can walk comfortably. I'm so glad I found out about Brooks!

I have been wearing these shoes since 1994 when I found out I had heel spurs. They are deep, allowing me to wear my prescription orthodics without removing the inner sole. I have tried to wear cheaper athletic shoes, and even others by Brooks, but my feet improve faster and with less day to day pain with these shoes because of the cushion soles. I was buying them locally, but I usually have to call ahead and they have to order my size. This saves me a lot of time and driving.

Gosh I have been wearing this good shoe for stability for several years. One pair after another. After trying others, I still prefer Brooks Addiction Walkers. I love the roomy and comfortable toe box and all other things about this shoe. If you need orthotics, there is plenty of room.( I don't ) I also really like that they come in black or in white, so I can pair them with clothes I couldn't if they had all the bells and whistles, stars and strips of more traditional looking athletic shoes. I wear them all day every day, for general purposes. They have always run true to size and width and look sharp. Love Brooks! Love *Amazon.*UPDATE: 1.6.2012 Received my order of two new pairs of these same beautiful white shoes, in less than a week, from when Amazon had stated delivery. The fit is perfect, always. True to one's usual size. I am not a walker other than 15 miutes a day, on carpet and I still wear them all day for general purposes, alternating each pair, every other day. This way, I have no need to wear an ankle brace. The shoes last longer and support better. Two or three, pair a year for the most comfortable shoe, ever, in my opinion. I have tried all the high-end walking shoes, and these, after 8 years, are still the best, for my needs, which are for normal feet with only slight pronation in one ankle and one weak ankle. I am dreading the day, when they are no longer available, as we have experienced in everything else from favorite make-up shades to food items. This shoe gives a noticable balance to my body, as soon as I put them on, also. I can feel the difference, compared to bare feet. Love that. Love Amazon.

A person in the orthotics field recommended the shoe. Previously wore SAS walkers, but the cost has become prohibitive. The Brooks Addiction Walker soles are thicker and the shoe heavier, yet the support is better. Flexibility is similar. The wide EE fit is excellent. It's a sturdy shoe with venting and takes a week or so to break in. Initially, I wondered if it was too heavy, but the adjustmest was easy. While I wish the heel was a little narrower, no modifications/additions needed to be made. Would appreciate if an extra pair of laces were included. Very pleased.

Perfect for all-day support and comfort!,
This review is from: Brooks Women's Addiction Walker Walking Shoe (Apparel)
I bought these shoes almost a year ago and they are still going strong. I work 12 hour shifts at a hospital as a CNA and I'm on my feet the whole time. I had my feet analyzed at a shoe store and they told me I "overpronate" when I walk, meaning the soles of my feet tend to turn inward while walking. The Brooks Addiction walker was recommended because of the arch support and sturdy construction. I recommend these shoes to anyone who has to walk for long periods of time. My feet have never hurt me after working 12 hours straight--how many shoes can you say that about? The only downside is that they look kind of bulky, but for the comfort is it definitely worth it!

I've had problems with heel pain - just got over that and had a broken ankle last year.
Anyway, I found the Brooks addiction runners the best shoes for my feet. So it was great to get the Addiction walkers. It was easy to order online since I knew the size and fitting. They arrived promptly - so thank you!

After a surgery to fuse my ankle due to osteo-arthritis, I require stablizing shoes. This is a great shoe for anyone with flat and pronating feet and/or those who require an orthotic insert. This shoe is supportive and comfortable, esp. around the ankle where you tie your shoe. Fit is supreme for both toes and heel. My hip no longer hurts after walking. I feel steady and aligned correctly. I have tried many athletic shoes that start out feeling good at the store, then, after several weeks, problems arise. Brooks Addiction walking shoe lasts longer and doesn't cause me pain like other brands. For sizing: if you have had to go a 1/2 size larger in other brands, you can safely go back to your original size in these Brooks. My only objection to these shoes is the color white is not a true white like other atletic shoes. It is an off-white, light tan/cream or a lighter version of the color bone, which is one of the color selections. I thought I made a mistake and clicked bone when ordering. But after I received my second pair (one for outdoors and one for indoors) it too is not bright white, but closer to the bone color. I wish it were a true white. But, will live with it due to my limited options in footwear. |
