5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stabilty Shoe, August 29, 2009
I am a long distance runner and run 40+ miles per week. I was suffering from Plantar Fasciitis and from bad blisters. I went into Road Runner Sports and these shoes were recommended partially because I tend to heel strike. Since wearing these shoes my Plantar Fasciitis is gone and I rarely get a blister. These shoes tend to hold up pretty well on long runs for me which are 15+ miles and because of the fact the insole is liquid I found these shoes do not need a "rest day" and really do perform well. They are a bit on the expensive side but these shoes are supposed to last 500 miles unlike some shoes that are about $25 less that last about 250-300 miles. So it is worth the investment.
***UPDATE I got 504.60 miles plus some walking miles( walking a mile or so home from a run) out of these shoes. I hate wearing any other shoe at this point. I have reordered another pair. I also did a few races in these shoes and PR'ed they are light and springy. I adore these shoes***

5.0 out of 5 stars Pain relief for metatarsals, March 24, 2011
After reading many online reviews at various sites I decided to purchase the Brooks Trance 9 for its cushioning and stability.

I am new to running (about 6 months now) and to Brooks shoes. I have been wearing the New Balance Women's WR760 NBX Stability Running Shoe, and happy with the fit and feel of it until I developed pain at the base of my second toe which was diagnosed as metatarsis - inflammation from striking too hard at that point on my foot. (I also have fibromyalgia which may be a contributing factor to this condition.) I had been training 10 to 12 miles per week at a 9:30-10 minute pace for my first 5K, but had to stop for two weeks to get my foot pain-free before I could continue. (I do tend to strike more on my right side - on the outer portion of my foot and on the ball of the foot.) During that time I purchased the Brooks Trance 9's on clearance (under fifty-five bucks...) based upon rave reviews regarding its cushioning.

Sizing: I wear a Nike size 10 and a 9.5B in New Balance. While I could wear a 9.5B in these shoes I decided upon the 10B for added toe box room. I'm glad I did. The arch is supportive (I have a normal arch), as is the heel cup. The wide toe box isn't too wide once the shoe is laced properly. I believe it's a true 'B' in width overall. Underneath the metatarsals is a generous pad of gel, which acts as a shock absorber. Very noticeable when you first put on the shoe. I also added Lynco L400 Orthotics Women's 10 to the shoes for added support. They fit perfectly in the shoes. **If you do this, be sure to remove the Brooks insert prior to adding the other one or the orthotics won't fit properly.

While my foot pain isn't completely gone, these shoes have definitely helped ease it. I think the New Balance shoes have a tad bit more stability, but the cushioning in the Brooks is the hands down winner and overall, it's a very comfortable shoe for walking or running. I would recommend this shoe to anyone with foot pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good fit, does the job, March 15, 2011

My primary goal for a new running shoe was to have good support and fit my custom insoles. Both were accomplished in the Trance 9. I like that the shoes are relatively low-profile but at that same time sturdy. I often have a hard time finding light running shoes that fit my custom insoles and was pleased that the Trance 9 accommodated this. I tried running with the insoles that came with the shoes but they did not offer the support I needed. I tend to have to buy larger size shoes due to my insoles (my Mizuno's are 7.5) but I bought the Trance 9 in 7.0 and they fit great. I found these shoes in sporting goods stores for $140 and on Amazon for ~$100. I thought ~$100 was fair price for the shoe.

I love this shoe. I wear orthotics with it and my feet and knees are painfree after long runs. Shoe was stiff at first but broke in quickly and is very comfortable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing shoes, September 21, 2011

These shoes are amazing. Brooks shoes are by far the best running shoe that you can buy if you are a serious runner. These are perfect for my foot-type (I am an over-pronator) and I feel completely balanced while running without getting that "overly-corrected" sensation when my feet hit the ground. The shoes are also very lightweight. Price is decent considering the brand, but in comparison to shoes like NIKE, the price is awesome. I wouldn't even put this brand in the category of NIKE though. Brooks are strictly for runners. Overall, very satisfied! FYI When purchasing these shoes, I recommend going about a 1/2 size up. I read this on many Brooks blogs, and I found this to be true myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars love this shoe, October 2, 2010
I was lucky enough to start running in this shoe last year. I tried another Brooks style (that I found on sale) but am coming back to this one. The other was good, but just not quite the same. I've had no problems out of either Brooks shoe and they have held up through training and running for two half-marathons and several smaller races. The Trance 9 is my favorite, though. It provides just the right amount of support for me and I love how lightweight it is.
