5.0 out of 5 stars Blessed sleep and traquil moments!
My granddaughter has one in her room, she is 4 now, but has had it since she was a baby.
I got one for myself and love it. I don't have a problem with the night light. To me
it is calming and the soft glow soothes me. My favorite is the ocean waves. I have it on
all night. Have not even tried the other ones, but listened to them shortly just to hear...

2.0 out of 5 stars The problem is the loop...., May 24, 2009
I've been sleeping with ambient noise for decades and when I'm at home I use either an air purifier or a box fan to create ambient noise that helps me sleep (I'm a tinnitus sufferer). I purchased this product from Brookstone years ago so I could travel with something that creates ambient noise (ever attempt to pack a box fan in a suitcase?). The problem with most noise machines like this one, is that the sounds are on a loop - i.e. a 30-second long noise sample that's looped together to create a constant sound. If you play the 'rain' sample on this product, or the 'white noise' sample (two of the primary ones for sleep mode)there's a high pitched sound that cuts into the sample at a certain point in the loop so every 30 seconds or so you'll hear a distinctive high pitched squeaking noise cut through the relaxing sounds. What happens is that your ears pick up the high pitched sounds on a rhythmic basis and can make sleeping difficult, if not impossible.

If you're purchasing this to travel, you might be better off arriving to your hotel, calling housekeeping, and having them deliver a box fan to your room (most hotels have them for this very purpose).

1.0 out of 5 stars Was great until it broke., June 9, 2009

Scott @ Amazon (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
I purchased this sound machine a couple of years ago to help drown out city street noise. Initially, I was very happy with this product. The product seems well made, is attractive, and has a great rubber-like texture. As several mentioned, the light is VERY bright so I also turned the machine toward the wall, which worked fine. I chose the sound I wanted and had it on every night for months. Everything was great until it began malfunctioning. One night while I was sleeping there was a loud pop sound, which woke me up with a start, and the machine shut off. I turned it back on without a problem and went back to sleep. Over the next few months the machine popped (and woke me up) and turned itself off with increasing frequency. Finally I had to stop using it as it was disrupting my sleep two or more nights a week. This product is expensive for a sound machine and should have lasted much longer. Although I was very happy with it when it worked properly I can't see buying another one and risking that it too will be defective.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after a few months, May 20, 2009
Bought this and loved it (display is too bright so we turned it to the wall, would have liked to turn it off) but it stopped working after a few months and it was a gift to my wife so I don't have the receipt, though I'd be surprised if warranty lasted long.

1.0 out of 5 stars Liked it at first, until it completely stopped working, March 29, 2009
**I wrote this section when I first got the sound machine; edited to add some more thoughts now:
My husband bought this for our own bedroom. It has a broad range of sounds, and I like the variety. I will say, though, that some of the selections are almost "creepy" sounding - like outerspace/aliens-are-among-us kind of sounds. I just don't use those ones. I don't know how anyone could relax or go to sleep with that in the background. I really enjoy the water/rain sounds and the ocean waves. The volume range is good, too. The unit itself seems sturdy and it's easy to use. There is a timer function as well - 30, 60, and 90 minutes.

**Edited to add:
This sound machine just stopped working out of nowhere after about 6 months. It hadn't been mishandled or misused in anyway. Just. Stopped. Working. We spent a lot of money for this to happen. Not happy about it and wouldn't buy it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars A lighthouse of sleeplessness, August 15, 2010
This review is from: Tranquil Moments Sound Therapy
Dear Brookstone.. I strongly question the value of a sound machine where the selection light glows like a shining beacon of insomnia cutting through the night, illuminating the darkness.

Even at its LOWEST setting the light is WAY too bright. I refuse to own a sleep machine where I have to place it face down on the floor to keep the light from keeping me awake!

I now find myself listening to it when I read . . . wonderful combination.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Brookstone!, May 14, 2009
I bought this product but lost the receipt. It quit working and I went to the store to request a replacement. I wasn't even asking for my money back. They would not work with me AT ALL. They wouldn't even give me a discount to buy a new one. As far as customer service goes, Brookstone is terrible. I've now looked into other sites and have found similar stories and worse. Many people have tried to write to the company when this happened and Brookstone will not even respond. It is their product and they won't even stand by it. I will never buy Brookstone again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it! (Except for the light), March 25, 2009
This sound function of this machine is awesome. The "night light" function is not. The light is dimmable but doesn't dim enough for my preference. Other than that I highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!, June 10, 2010
This review is from: Tranquil Moments Sound Therapy
Like some of the other reviewers' units, mine just stopped working right after the warranty expired. Brookstone offered to SELL ME another A/C adapter--no thanks! Terrible customer service. Nice while it lasted, but for that price, I would expect more than a year of use (and better customer service).

1.0 out of 5 stars horrendous customer service experience, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Tranquil Moments Sound Therapy
Product warranted for 1 year. The AC adaptor failed after product was out of warranty and could not get a replacement part from Brookstone. Also flawed product design: it emits a bright light that isn't conducive for sleeping. Overpriced. Can get the same set of sounds on the internet that can be downloaded for free to your computer.
