When trying to tighten them against the screw post heads they mate with resulted in failure of several of them.
hope this helps
Even then, there are gaps in the back corner seam where the two panels don't quite meet, and because several holes were poorly placed, not all the shelves sit level.

The hardware consists of "wood" pegs and steel-looking screw-in pegs that are supposed to hook into cylindrical, flush-mounted catches.

This piece was just what I was looking for. It was packaged nicely and arrived UPS with no damage. While it has a better quality wood than, say, an ikea piece, it still is a dowel and cam lock assembly item, with just an 8 x 11 single page line drawing(s) for assembly instructions.
It took me 45 minutes to assemble, just a phillips screwdriver is needed. Interestingly, the parts package had an allen wrench for the base board fasteners, but the baseboard fasteners required a phillips screw driver. Not a big deal. The piece looks good, and goes together easily enough, although if you are not careful, you can get the shelves in backwards without noticing.
The thing that kept running through my mind was "$199.00 for this!" If it was an ikea product, it would be $49.00 (but to be fair, not as nice). To me, this is a $99.00 piece, but since I found no alternative, and it was exactly what I needed, I bought it. and It is well represented by the photo, so if you like the photo, you will like the stand.

This is a solid piece of furniture made with real wood, not particle-board. It's very sturdy and weighs a ton. I purchased it for a side table in my living room, which was drowning in magazines and coffee table books. My husband (who assembled it in half an hour) was impressed by the quality. I would definitely buy more furniture from this manufacturer. The only reason my review isn't 5 stars is because I wish it came in a wider range of colors.

The assembly was hard to do with just one person. I hate those little pegs they use for the shelves. It was a little tall for my use -- so you will want to measure the height of where you put it.

This item must be completely assembled upon receipt, which is okay. However, the pre-drilled holes which needed to be precise were not. Thus the item did not fit together squarely. Some of the fasteners were made out of a light metal (it appears to be some sort of pot metal). When trying to tighten them against the screw post heads they mate with resulted in failure of several of them. The unit did assemble in about half an hour however the top ended up held in place by gravity due to the previously mentioned fastener failures. I am not sure if the others will hold. I am not sure what the other reviewer was looking as this is indeed particle board with a thin veneer finish. At least part of the finish was painted on as I could see places where it had smeared.

A previous reviewer said this was made of real wood and not particle board, but the table I received was most definitely particle board. The instructions were blurry and the holes often did not line up, requiring significant redrilling, a hammer, and four different screwdrivers to put this thing together. Even then, there are gaps in the back corner seam where the two panels don't quite meet, and because several holes were poorly placed, not all the shelves sit level. An unfinished solid wood piece from the local furniture store would have cost a lot less and been built a lot better.

I initially saw this product in an airline magazine and debated about ordering it. As others have commented, the assembly was a bit tedious. But once it is assembled, it functions well. I've had mine now for two years, and it's held up beautifully. Also, the one I have is made from real wood--not particle board--and is relatively light to lift. It has provided a great solution for the piles of books and magazines that had tended to accumulate at bedside. Also, it is just the right size to hold a lamp, alarm clock, and a few miscellaneous items that I like to keep next to the bed.
