Runaway, gone forever...
on January 6, 2013
Very fun. It was my first RC heli so I have nothing to compare it to but it seems to work similar to other's that cost a lot more. While learning to fly I crashed it into the ceiling, furniture, tile floor, etc. It took quite a beating with no apparent damage. The lights are really cool and good-looking.
My one and only complaint, and it's a serious one, is what happens when your remote, for whatever reason, loses contact with the heli. I have a sad/funny story to go along with that complaint. I had only owned the heli for three days when I ventured outside with it. It was night and there was no wind, perfect (or so I thought). I was flying it around, strictly keeping it within a range no more than 30 feet of me and 10 - 20 feet off the ground. For some unknown reason the remote lost control of it. I would have expected it to power down and crash back onto the ground. It didn't. It rev'd up to max power, climbed to max altitude (probably 80 ft), drifted over a major highway, and crashed in a wooded area, never to be seen by mankind again...
It says the range is 80 feet. I was within 30 feet when it lost control. I continuously tried to regain control but was unsuccessful. It did it's own thing and is gone. I contacted Brookstone and was told it wasn't covered under the warranty.
It did get me interested in RC heli's. I've ordered the Blade mCX2 and hopefully I will have a better experience with it as these things can be a lot of fun.
